Use your iPod as a credit card?
Posted by Lab Rat Have you ever wished you could buy an iPod WITH an iPod? Me either. However, a company called Ingencio has developed the world’s first-ever terminal which can accept payment via an iPod. By combining their i5100 terminal technology with an iPod using Griffin’s iTrip FM Transmitter to broadcast a signal, Ingenico was able to demonstrate at the Cartes 2005 exhibition how future transactions could be made via MP3 players. In theory, this could allow... Read More
Vonage announces nation-wide 911 services
Posted by Dr. Macenstein Vonage today announced that all of its customers now have access to 911 services. Vonage currently offers E911 or enhanced 911 throughout the US, by sending the call, along with the customer’s address and phone number, to the proper local emergency call center based on the caller’s street address. Since its inception, the absence of a nation-wide 911 phone system has been a sticking point for a great many potential Vonage subscribers (as... Read More
RUMOR: The Simpsons go to Macworld
Posted by Helper Monkey As we approach the 2006 Macworld Expo, reports are starting to come in giving us a clearer picture of what to expect. To be honest, from what we are hearing, we expect to be slightly underwhelmed this Expo, but we (like most Mac fans) are eternal optimists. However, even the lamest Macworlds have proven exciting, and there is no denying Steve Jobs knows how to get a crowd going. To that end, we thought we’d let you in on a little tidbit we just came... RUMOR: The sub $500 Mac laptop, and why we won’t see it
Posted by Lab Rat From the LoopRumors website: LoopRumors has information that Apple has been developing a stripped down iBook model geared for low-end users. Whether the new machine will have an Intel processor or remain PowerPC is unclear. The price of the laptop is aimed to compete with sub $500 notebooks such as Dell’s Inspiron B120. While there’s no reason Apple couldn’t do this, we tend to think LoopRumors might have left off a “0â€? in that... Read More
Something cool to try

Not sure what you would use this for, but I have already had fun doing to to 3 of the office Macs here when people were away from their desks. The truly cool thing is this sticks through a reboot, so unless you know the trick, you can totally screw with someone. (You can also undo this in the System Prefs under Universal... Read More

Japan rejects “iPod Tax
Posted by Dr. Macenstein A committee appointed by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs has rejected a proposal by the country’s recording industry to impose a tax on portable media players, including Apple’s iPod. The measure sought to add a 2%-5% tax on the sale of the music players that would go directly to the recording industry to help offset perceived losses due to file sharing. In the past the committee had been made up of lobbyists for the record companies,... Read More
