Posted by Helper Monkey After months of rumors, AMD and ATI announced today a plan to join forces in a transaction that will combine AMD’s technology leadership in microprocessors with ATI’s strengths in graphics, chipsets and consumer electronics. The result (they claim) is a new competitor, better equipped to drive growth, innovation and choice for its customers in commercial and mobile computing segments and in rapidly-growing consumer electronics segments. Rumor: Apple to make Bluetooth headphones a priority in next iPod revisions in order to help fight crime
Posted by Dr. Macenstein An anonymous e-mailer has sent us what he/she claims to be a bit of legit info on Apple’s next gen iPod(s). (I know I know, but hey, it’s a slow news day, and Apple’s stellar financial results have been much been taken care of by every other site on the planet). He/she claims that Bluetooth wireless technology will be built into the forthcoming 6G iPod and new nanos (which is somewhat expected) but he/she claims the reason is as... Read More
LoJack for Macs
Posted by iGor Did you know that a laptop is stolen every 53 seconds? Me either. That adds up to about 525,000 laptops a year. Using the logic that the only laptop worth stealing is an Apple laptop, that means a full ¼ of all Mac laptops are stolen! Well, MacBook owners no longer have anything to fear. Absolute Software has released a Mac version of its Computrace LoJack for Laptops Laptop security and recovery software, and the apps aims to bring up the laughable 3% recovery... Read More
RUMOR: iTunes movie RENTALS?!?
Posted by Dr. Macenstein Think Secret is reporting that Apple has finally signed a deal with most of the major Hollywood studios to bring downloadable movies to iTunes, although it is not the deal most of us were hoping for. The site claims these movies will be rentals-only, and expire after either a set period of time or number of playbacks. No pricing information is given, and the exact terms of the rental scheme are not disclosed, but if true, this is obviously a big win... Read More
Free “Project Runway” special on iTunes
Posted by Helper Monkey Yet another free goodie today on the iTunes store, yet this time the value is more debatable (yes, I know I said it’s free). A free “casting special” from Season 3 of the “hit” show (for Bravo, anyway) Project Runway. Entitled “Road to Runway“, the special “… follows auditions across the country in search of the next great fashion designer and catches up with some of the favorite designers of seasons’... Read More

Review: Macally iLaser mouse – Software bugs ruin a good mouse
Posted by Lab Rat The iLaser Programmable 5 Button USB Laser Mouse ($29) by Macally is perhaps the best example I have seen of a “communication failure between a device’s hardware engineers and its software engineers. The iLaser is a nice-looking mouse, designed for use with both left and right-handed users. It is a little on the “light side weight-wise, but doesn’t feel cheap either. The “Left and “Right mouse buttons... Read More
“Jews for Jesus” attempts to convert Steve Jobs
Posted by Helper Monkey In what can only be described as the most bizarre marketing tactic we have ever seen, New York-based Jews for Jesus has created a pamphlet specifically designed to convert Steve Jobs (who is Jewish) to Christianity, and it even goes so far as to compare Steve Jobs to Jesus Christ. Above: Even Buzz Lightyear seems to be OK with Jobs’ conversion. “Steve Jobs – you started in lowly circumstances… a garage in Los Altos, California... Read More
