Watch the “Mac Guy” in Die Hard 4 trailer

Posted by Dr. Macenstein Hey, have you been waiting for the release of Die Hard 4 as much as me? If so, you haven’t been waiting at all. Still, it’s headed our way like a 60 year-old bald action star, and slated for a 2007 release. So, what does this have to do with Apple? Well, everyone’s favorite “Mac Guy”, Justin Long seems to be Bruce Willis’ co-star in the upcoming Die Hard sequel, unfortunately named “Live Free or Die Hard“. Being... Read More

Review: LapLogic’s Guardian and Traveler series Laptop Desks

Posted by Count Macula I consider myself to be a true Mac “road warrior”. I use my PowerBook everywhere I go; at work, at home, in front of the TV, on the plane… yes I’ve even been know to peruse the internet while dropping a deuce or two (maybe that’s why no one here at the lab asks to borrow it). But as any heavy PowerBook user will tell you, the electricity consumed by the PowerBook radiates in two ways; light and heat. Since the screen isn’t... Read More

December 12th, 1980- Mass. says Apple’s stock too risky to sell

Posted by Dr. Macenstein Faithful Macenstein (and Wall Street Journal reader) Kevin sent this little blurb he found in today’s Wall Streeet Journal. Given Apple’s stock price today, we thought it was pretty funny. Here is a quote from the Wall Street Journal, December 12, 1980 that I thought you might find interesting. “Apple Computer Inc. is slated to go public today. The Cupertino, Calif., maker of microcomputers will sell 4.6 million shares at $22. In... Read More

This week, it is the Berlin Film Festival favorite “Gnome“, featuring Lauren Graham of Gilmore Girls fame. Microsoft’s latest Zune ads more artistic than Apple’s

Posted by Dr. Macenstein OK, so we all know the Zune is not quite the iPod killer some had predicted. In fact, there are reports that iPod car chargers are outselling the Zune on Amazon these days. However, there IS one area Microsoft has impressed me with the Zune, and that is advertising. Check out this new commercial for the Zune entitled “Cookie”. (click below) The latest Zune ad from ad agency 72andsunny has a very “Tim Burton/Film Board of Czechoslovakia”... Read More

Apple acquires Proximity, maker of artbox media asset manager (FCP6?)

Posted by Helper Monkey Things are looking bright for users of Final Cut Pro. Apple has officially announced it has acquired a company called Proximity, which claims to be “a dedicated leading provider of creative media asset management and production workflow software.” As anyone who has tried to use Final Cut Pro in a professional environment knows, the way FCP handles saving your media assets (by spreading them across multiple drives in non-intuitively named folders)... Read More

Review: The TVMini HD by Miglia

Posted by Lab Rat As a bona-fide tech geek, I recently decided it was downright ludicrous that I had not yet jumped on the HDTV bandwagon. After all, HDTV is no longer the wave of the future, it is the wave of the present. Unfortunately, working as a lowly lab assistant here at Macenstein doesn’t pay all that well, so the odds of me buying an HD television set are pretty slim. However I DID just drop a boatload of cash on a new 23-inch Apple Cinema display for my Mac... Read More
