Are The Beatles still relevant enough to warrant Apple spending the money for a Super Bowl commercial?
Posted by Dr. Macenstein Apple has scheduled a special event to be held during the Super Bowl this year, according to the Toronto Sun. Their source claims that the event (likely to take the form of a highly-priced Super Bowl commercial) will allegedly be used to announce that The Beatles will finally be dragged, kicking and screaming, into the era of digital downloads, and will begin by signing an exclusive three-month deal with long time legal foe, Apple Inc. While I am happy... Read More

Apple’s new AirPort Extreme Base Station: What’s missing?
Posted by Lab Rat Last week Apple announced (well, not so much announced as “added to their store”) an updated AirPort Extreme Base Station with a new form factor, and support for the new (so new it’s not even approved yet) 802.11n wireless networking protocol. Because of the adoption of 802.11n, Apple says the new AirPort Extreme can increase the speed of your network up to 5 times, and double the range of the previous AirPort Extreme. Additionally, there... Read More
Want an iPhone but don’t like Cingular? Don’t worry!
Posted by Helper Monkey While Cingular Wireless is the largest cellular provider in America, not everyone is a fan. When Apple announced their new exclusive deal with Cingular to be the sole provider of the iPhone, many “Cingular Haters” were a bit put out. But as it turns out, while the iPhone will indeed not work with T-Mobile, Verizon and others, Cingular won’t be the carrier either. Why? Because Cingular won’t be around come June. AT&T, which... How much RAM will the iPhone have?
Posted by Lab Rat When Steve Jobs showed off the iPhone with its Core Animations, Safari web browsing, and OS X operating system, my first thought was “Wow. I wonder how much RAM that thing is going to have?”. My Dual G5 PowerMac has 1.5 GB of RAM installed. As I write this, I have 3 applications open on my computer, Text Edit, Safari, and Activity Monitor. Safari has one web page open (the Apple home page, fittingly enough). A quick look at the Activity Monitor shows... Read More

Batting Zero; A depressing look back at our Macworld predictions
Posted by Dr. Macenstein Ouch! If we ever needed a lesson in humility, Steve Jobs gave us (and a good deal of the Apple watching community) one this morning when he delivered his keynote speech. Looking back over our predictions, it is apparent the Psychic Friends Hotline won’t be calling US any time soon looking for advice. The funny thing is, we joking made our predictions in (what we thought) was an overly-cautious manner, sticking strictly to the things that everyone,... Read More

Posted by Helper Monkey Cafepress.com, the site that millions of people use to buy and sell merchandise of all shapes and size (but mainly T-Shirts) is once again down, although this time, it looks a bit more serious than last month’s hacker attack against the site. On December 19th the site suffered a denial of service attack which caused the site to temporarily go offline, and interfered with the holiday shopping season. Users were often unable to log in to make purchases... Read More
