The Macworld iTablet: Ramblings of a Madman, or does he know something…?

Very rarely at Macenstein, someone who knows a little bit of something drops us a tip in the days leading up to a big Mac event, such as Apple’s Macworld this January. More often, however, we get crazy rambling letters from conspiracy nuts. The problem with discounting the conspiracy nuts out of hand is, of course, they are usually right. Apple probably IS working on a cold fusion rocket in some underground lab, and odds are we’ll never see it, but you never know… One... Read More

Italian Spiderman Trailer

Every once in awhile, something so amazingly awesome comes around that even though it has nothing to do with the Mac, I feel obligated to share it with you. Italian Spiderman Trailer is just such a thing. Enjoy.  Read More

Last day to submit for your $100 iPhone credit

Today (November 30th, for those of you without calendars) is the last day “early iPhone adopters” can redeem their $100 Apple Store credit. I blew spent mine on Leopard a couple weeks ago, but now that we’re in the thick of the holiday shopping season, I could sure use another… Did I mention how very, very, very deeply hurt I was by that iPhoe price drop thing? (If you haven’t already redeemed your iPhone credit, click here to do so).  Read More

Urban Legend or Urban Fact? – Steve Jobs and the squishy MacBook

Urban legends are usually thought of as pretty cool, quite often involving escaped maniacs and hook-hands stuck to the side of car doors, but even we geeks have urban legends. I learned one such tale today, told to me by a Mac Genius on a trip to the Apple Store, and if you think you are brave enough, pull up a round bean bag chair, and I will tell it to you now. About 5 hours after I opened my new MacBook (purchased 2 weeks ago online) I noticed that the lower left side of the... Read More

AT&T’s Stephenson spills the beans on 3G iPhone (sort of)

At a recent meeting of the Churchill Club in Santa Clara, California, AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson (apparently fed up with the constant questions about the iPhone’s 3G plans) allegedly blurted out “You’ll have it next year”. Stephenson could not provide specific details on what the new iPhone would cost, saying only Steve Jobs “will dictate what the price of the phone is”. Engadget is for some reason guessing a 3G version would debut at... Read More

No QTVR on iPhone or iPod touch? WTF?!

The fact that the iPhone has been out nearly 6 months now and I have not seen anyone bitch about this yet likely means I am wasting my breath, but who cares? It wouldn’t be the first time. Why is there no QuickTime VR support on the iPhone/iPod touch? I just happened to be trolling Apple’s site this evening on my iPhone, and thought, “Hey, it must be kind of cool to pan around a QTVR using the iPhone’s touchscreen! Lets check it out!”. (Yes, I am... Read More

Mac Vader Pro

Any Apple fan with limited garage/basement space has at one time or another been told by the woman in his life (be it a wife or mother) that they need to throw away those giant Apple computer boxes their machines came in. Well, I challenge any nagging wife to refute the awesomeness of THIS shot taken at the DragonCon Labor Day Weekend Parade. That’s right. It appears to be a Darth Vader costume made predominantly from a Mac Pro box – and the fellow is wearing the... Read More

Newton MoDeminos

Following our recent hard-hitting, 60 Minutes-esque exposé on the use of expensive electronics as dominoes in advertising, we have now come across a bit of Apple history in the form of the first known “iPod-sized electronic device ” domino footage, and it looks like Apple may once again be able to lay claim to the coveted title of Innovator That Everyone Else Copies. “On a slow day in 1996 the members of Apple’s Newton team found a creative use for... Read More

Tomb Raider Anniversary is coming, courtesy of Feral

I remember catching my first glimpse of Lara Croft’s pixelated bosom as a young lad at my first E3, in Atlanta. I even more vividly remember the decidedly “smoother” booth girl Eidos had hired to dress as the millionaire playgirl/adventurer – she fit the part quite nicely (no easy feat). I soon became enamored with the virtual Miss Croft (thanks in no small part to the infamous “Nude Raider” patch), and the Tomb Raider franchise in general.... Read More
