Curved iMac concept - would you like some WTF with that?

A ‘new’ concept iMac has given birth: The iMac iView. A designer named Nuno Teixeira is getting a lot of attention from avid Mac fans. As the title says, it’s curved but as the images below will show, it has no stand. This makes me wonder how easy it would be for a little burst of wind to knock it over and destroy your banana’d Apple product.

As the second image shows, you can see a second screen with another iSight camera. The advantages of this I do not know, perhaps your wall gets a little lonely sometimes?

Let us know what you think of the concept, or specifically, the uses of a second screen and iSight (because we all want to see that lovely 80’s retro-wallpaper you’ve still got going..).

    2. well, the Apple logo seems way too big, and the second monitor is useless. Also, unless that’s a 72-inch screen, no reason for it to be curved…
    It also seems to be battery powered ? And have no external ports or optical drive, except for that bizarre, long SCSI-port looking thing on the side…
    And even if there was a reason for the front monitor to be curved, the second one is curved OUT, which makes no sense.
    But aside from that it’s cool.

    2. in some office back to back computers can be a bit hard to share screens.

    3. I like the idea of wide and curved but not the back screen!

    5. hmmm curved at the right size would be cool.. as long as it stuck to a “letterbox” video format. Second screen, USELESS as far as I can tell. Just seems dumb curved out like Rowlings points out.

    I will assume it would have ports somewhere for power. But perhaps only uses bluetooth for keyboard and other interface devices.

    Its way cool… say as some sort of large screen HD TV. 42″ + sizes only. Pair it up with apple tv.

    8. However stupid I think the mock-up is, and for whatever numerous reasons, I have to mention that I never put my workstation facing a wall. I like to be facing out into the room, rather than with my back to it.

    Some kind of feng shui for OCD people thing.

    9. One use of the curved monitor is privacy. All other things being equal, it would be harder to look over someone’s shoulder, so to speak, sitting elbows adjacent one another with these kind of screens. I’m sure there would be other obvious benefits like this.

    11. As an industrial designer, I have a few points of contention. The second screen, as Rowlings said, serves virtually no purpose. The iSight is impractical, the one unsightly port is placed bizarrely given the rear expanse of the machine, the material seems to be an odd mixture of aluminum and sheet metal (probably a lazy rendering job), and on the whole the concept is poorly executed. It makes me wonder how some designers get their jobs, let alone their recognition. More than few commentators here could have shat a better design…
