Celebrity Mac Chick sighting: Jessica Simpson!

Well this is a major feather in our collective Mac hats. Apparently Jessica Simpson, aka the reason the Giants won the Superbowl, is a Mac Chick! Normally it takes very keen eyes to notice what Jessica Simpson is holding in a photo, but since I am happily married (plus the fact that I would never have a chance with her even if I wasn’t) allows me the freedom to view her pictures more objectively. Above: I’m not sure where Jessica put that iPod, but it looks like... Read More

New MacBook Pros are the first ever laptop to offer a “Douple”-layer SuperDrive

While the new MacBook Pro updates seemingly offered no real surprises this morning, faithful Macenstein reader Kerry Brys noted that the 17-inch model is offering a “Douple”-layer SuperDrive. Apple has not yet commented on the benefits, if any, of a douple-layer drive, but odds are this is some new hybrid between the current double-layer drives, and a new triple-layer drive format that has not yet been approved by the industry. This is not the first time Apple... Read More

iPhone firmware 1.1.4 released! And the new features are…um… nothing?

Well, it doesn’t exactly add Flash support, or any discernible new features at all, but Apple has released the highly anticipated (and therefore highly disappointing) iPhone firmware 1.1.4. All that is mentioned under What’s New is “bug fixes”, which if it stops Safari from crashing on my iPhone while I listen to music, I’m all for.  Read More

iTunes Now Number Two Music Retailer in the US

Thanks in no small part the increasingly low standards today’s youth have with regard to music, Apple today announced that it is now the number 2 music retailer in the US, second only to Wal-Mart (The fact that Wal-Mart is number 1 is actually quite sad). Such “classics” as Flo Rida’s Low, Miley Cyrus’ See You Again, and American Idol’s Jordan Sparks’ No Air have allowed Apple to sell over 4 billion songs to over 50 million customers.  Read More

STILL with the combo drive!?! REALLY?!?

REALLY? Seriously?!? Why not add an $800 “floppy drive” model if the optical drive is so expensive?  Read More

The G4 Cube: “Holy Shit, Steve’s done it again!”

Introduced at the July 2000 Macworld Expo, there is little denying that the G4 Cube was one of the coolest looking Apple products ever made (well, the ones without the stress fractures at least). But I thought this promotional video for the Cube was interesting for a couple reasons. First, there is an almost comically liberal use of the term “Super Computer” here. I mean, I love the Cube as much as anyone, but who did Apple think was buying that spin? The way they... Read More

Lily Allen and her MacBook Air

Well, it certainly isn’t the most flattering photo we’ve seen of (seemingly) Mac Chick Lily Allen, but faithful Macenstein reader lewisozz sent us a picture of a rather angry looking Lily Allen holding her new MacBook Air. Maybe she’s a FireWire fan? Lily’s MySpace blog mentioned she got the Air free from Vanity Fair earlier this month. Lily is best known for her single “Smile” which reached number one on the UK singles charts in July 2006.... Read More

New MacBook Pros tomorrow (no, this is not a duplicate post)

Well, here we are at the start of another week, which means the rumor community is once again ready to predict new MacBook Pros will be released tomorrow (that makes the 7th time in as many weeks, for those of you counting). Actually, this week there is a slightly better than average chance it might actually happen, as MacRumors is reporting that shipments of TimeCapsules AND “other” Apple products are on their way to stores for midweek delivery. Those of you who... Read More

SDK delay is A-OK with Apple PR!

The Mac universe has been rocked these past couple of day by reports that Apple’s iPhone SDK will be delayed, perhaps by as much as 3 weeks. While no doubt this news will likely account for a fair number of suicides this weekend, there is one group of people that are likely dancing a Bruce-Willis-Last Boy Scout Jig… Apple’s PR department. I’ve mentioned before (and with no facts to back me up) that Apple must spend the least amount of money on advertising... Read More
