Faithful Mexican Macenstein reader Christian alerts us that a new Technical High School will be opening in the city of Joquicingo, and it is being named after Steve Jobs (whether he likes it or not).

“In Joquicingo at Mexico State the state government built a new school called Steve Jobs… I wonder if the real Steve knows about it?

The sign reads:
mexico state gov (logo) commitment, (gov slogan)

“steve jobs” technological high school center (CBT steve jobs), joquicingo (city)
technological high school (baqueloratte, not university)

in gray letters:
pre incriptions already open
feb march 2008

in small letters left block:

education national secretary (or bureau in charge of mexico education)
high and medium high school education secretary (or bureau inside the above)
high school education general direction (or bureau inside the above)
technological high school department (inside the bureau above)
school supervisor 64 or 04 for technological baqueloratte (don’t now if the spell is ok)”

Wow, what an honor! And the football games against Woz Valley High are going to be stellar. Of course the real question here is, in a high school comprised completely of geeks, will the kids have to stuff themselves into lockers?

Macenstein’s “Mac Chick of the Month” (September 2008): Alice Blacker

Welcome to Macenstein’s “Mac Chick of the Month”. Each month we feature a different die-hard, Mac-loving girl who is (almost) as well designed as the Apple products they love. This month we present you with the lovely Alice Blacker, a full-time UK college student and of course, full-time Mac Chick!

Redefining “refurbished”

Overstock.com is selling what they call an Apple iMAC G5 Laptop (Refurbished). Not sure whether they refurbished an iMac into a laptop, or a laptop into an iMac, but either way, they went above and beyond what we normally expect when we hear “refurbished”.

The description reads: “Take your technology anywhere with this G5 desktop computer”. Anywhere, eh? Like the chiropractor? They list it at 18.5 lbs.

Maybe I’m just using it wrong.

No way she worked on MobileMe

Dan Lyons recently wrote about a mysterious blog posting he came across which appeared to detail the internal corporate aftermath of the MobileMe rollout/fiasco/debacle.

The mystery blogger, known only as Ethlite, laid out a scenario that could easily be interpreted as coming from Cupertino’s MobileMe HQ about 2 months ago:

“The predictable fallout ensued, with a dressing down by our CEO, followed by the usual finger pointing and finally ending in removal/demotion of some members of the senior management team. “

Lyons went so far as to contact Apple and confirm that Ethlite did indeed work on the MobileMe team, and was given the affirmative. Since his posting, all traces of Ethlite on the web have disappeared. flickr, myspace, blogspot, friendfeed, facebook… she seems to be trying to erase any online link to her true identity, although at this point we’d wager it is a little too late for that.

However despite Lyons’ apparent “confirmation” that Ethlite was an Apple employee, we have our doubts. Mac site theapplelounge has re-posted the Ethlite’s full blog posting (which had been deleted) in its entirety, and we must say, from the first opening lines it’s pretty obvious she isn’t talking about MobileMe:

“About two months ago, the group I work for suffered one of the worst product launch failures in its history. In fact, not just the group, but for the company. A very high profile product failed to launch on the day and then continued to fail for an agonizing week afterwards.”

You see? Right there! She said “agonizing week afterwards”. Week. Single. Everyone knows MobileMe’s rollout sucked for about 3 weeks. Case closed. She’s obviously talking about the rollout of some sort of cigarettes marketed towards children with Asthma or something. So let’s end all the speculation.

Apple hits the big time – gets its own YouTube Channel

Apple has finally gotten the biggest honor that anyone can hope for – its own Official YouTube page. Yes, they don’t give those out to just anyone. Apple now joins the exclusive ranks of Chris Crocker and The Potter Puppet Pals.

Is this an attempt by Apple to save some bandwidth costs by throwing hosting duties to YouTube’s servers, or did they see the awesomeness that is the Official Dell YouTube channel and felt compelled to respond? We’re not sure. The channel is still only a couple days old, so hopefully it will evolve into something you might actually want to visit from time to time. Right now it consists almost entirely of ads, although Apple has thrown in a tutorial video for iTunes just to break up the marketing messages a little (however, odds are if you can’t figure out iTunes, you can’t figure out how to find their YouTube channel either). We’d love for this to become the official repository for Apple’s video history (keynotes, ads, how-tos for long dead product lines…) but right now it’s 90% Long and Hodgman.

Anyway, if you missed the latest Get A Mac ads, or just want to look cool by having Apple be your YouTube friend (like I did), check them out.

How successful is Microsoft’s “I’m A PC” ad campaign?

Check out the Google results for “I’m a PC”.
Number one in the list…

Too funny.

OUCH. Well, to be fair, Microsfot does come in at number 2. However, faithful Macenstein reader Phelim points out that the number 3 result isn’t all that good for Microsoft either.

Too funny.

They’re surrounded!

Now THAT’S what I call multitasking! (Possibly NSFW)

This lady is a triple threat. She can talk on the phone, surf the web on her PowerBook, AND double-pump breast milk at the same time! (Or are her breasts actually powering the laptop?).

Behold “PowerBoobs Pro“. Click to enlarge (You know you want to make this your desktop wallpaper)

For the record, I’ve never been able to make a woman that happy.

Thanks to faithful German Macenstein reader Martin for the photo. (And don’t worry Martin, we won’t ask why you were searching for nursing bras).

Tommy Smothers’ iPod charger invented

When Skynet becomes self-aware (at 2:01 am), odds are the robots will attempt to block out the sun so none of our solar-powered iPhone/iPod chargers will work, rendering us “tuneless”. However, one ingenious Swede has come up with the perfect foil for our soon-to-be robot overlords – may we present the iYo YOYO Induction Charger.

iYO YOYO from Peter Muungano on Vimeo.

That’s right. Thanks to inventor Peter Thuvander, now you can charge your iPod AND look stupid at the same time, saving you valuable “getting beat up” time. Actually, the iYo YOYO seems to be only in the conceptual stages, which we assume is why it looks like it might actually work. We have a feeling that in reality, anyone attempting to use a Yo-Yo to charge their iPod would die of multiple wedgie-based injuries before gaining a 25% charge.

OMFG! THE iTUNES STORE HAS BEEN HACKED!!!!!

What happened to the AppStore?
Yesterday there was 180+ pages of…. well crap and now there is only 88 pages.
Routine maintenance? Hacked? Spring Cleaning?
Also latest release date is 14th of September. Hmmmmm.

Hmm… We have no idea, Kensei.

While we’d LIKE to think Apple went in and ripped out all the worthless crap apps, there are nowhere NEAR 88 pages of quality iPhone apps on iTunes right now.
:)
We’re guessing routine maintenance of some sort, as since we started typing this, the page count has gone up to 90. Hopefully all will be wright in a few hours.

Although, that would be a boring story, so… OMFG! THE iTUNES STORE HAS BEEN HACKED!!!!!
