Save the “B”‘s! New MacBook can’t spell its name

Engadget reader Mark got a bit of a surprise when he opened his new MacBook, or, should we say, MacMook?

Looks like Apple got a good deal on “M”‘s. Actually, now that I look at it, it looks like it is even a little more screwed up than it looks at first. They didn’t just replace the “N” with an “M”, they pushed the “N” down as well eliminating the “B” completely. I had actually heard that the “B”‘s were in danger, but I hadn’t realized it had gotten this far.

The missing ‘B’ and the “N’ are in the wrong place. If this isn’t a Photoshop job than it’s a production blunder…

Wouldn’t it be MacNook then? Not MacMook, seeing as the “N” is now where the “B” is to be?

I wonder if the Apple Store keeps extra keycaps on hand to let a customer fix this problem without having to resort to leaving the laptop for a few days.

It’d be nice if whoever took this photo would post how Apple resolved the issue. Knowing the way some companies work, they might turn what should be a two minute fix into a multi-day spam without the laptop…

I prefer the aluminum keys of the previous MacBook Pro. The black keys are not an improvement.

The MBP keys are aluminum-colored plastic, actually. I’m a little skeptical of the chicklet keyboard myself, but I haven’t given it a fair trial yet.

If the keyboard is the same as the one on the old MacBook, and the “thin” Apple desktop keyboards, it is by FAR the worst keyboard I have ever used, basically unusable for typing, and is a total show-stopper in terms of buying the computer.

I’m just glad I got the last rev MacBook Pro, before they mandated a crappy keyboard and a glossy screen.
