That mouse was a gift! To third-party hardware vendors, that is. It's a nice keepsake (I still have mine...), but you can't use it for long, so you have to go out and buy a mouse from someone else. It wasn't a week before I bought my first logitech mouse; it was awesome!

Hardware reviewers tend to be men with big hands and/or horribly Monk-like in their aversion to the unfamiliar (e.g. the Mac). Those with small hands appreciated the round mouse design, as did those who understood the proper way to hold the mouse and click the button. My wife had tiny hands, and she loved the round mouse. I have stiffness in the last joint of my index finger from a quarter century of mousing. The round mouse was intended to fit in the hollow of your hand, allowing you to click the one button with the pad at the base of your fingers.

I used to touch the cord to know which way was up. No problem.

I loved that mouse. small, interesting, not unlike many mice made today for laptops. Was a bit trick for the hamfisted though.

No, it's that the puck mice weren't well received, mostly due to the before-mentioned puck shape. The unusual shape made them hard to use for most users, and they were USB mice at a time when most mice used ADB connectors. The Doc's making fun of the fact that Steve called it "The most wonderful mouse you've ever used."
