I’m 95% sure Steve Ballmer is not a Nazi

I’ve analyzed this footage for about 2 days straight, and as convincing as it is, I am pretty sure it is fake.

Above: Just because something is horribly offensive, doesn’t mean it’s not funny

I fancy myself someone of an expert at video analysis, as I actually made a pretty convincing fake Steve Jobs video which fooled millions, so I sort of know what to look for in these types of videos. Without giving away any trade secrets, I have detected one or two frames where the lip sync appears to be slightly off, so I’m calling BS here.

You know, it’s videos like this that give us Apple fanboys a bad name. Let me just say while I am no Microsoft fan, even I think it’s a bit much to equate Ballmer with Hitler. I mean, after all, Hitler liked dogs. (Ba dum bum!)

(I briefly toyed with disabling comments on this post, knowing full well I could be in for a PC lecture (no pun intended) but hey, yelling at authors is what the interweb is all about. Have at it.)

Redefining “user unfriendliness”: Linux is ported to the iPhone… for some reason

I’ve never been a fan of how user-friendly the iPhone’s OS is. Sure, it’s OK, but it’s always bothered me that I did not need a USB client, computer and keyboard hooked to it to display a text-navigated kernel, and instead I was forced to use that beautiful graphical interface and intuitive touch screen to navigate my visually stunning and well-designed apps and games.

Well, luckily for me, my days of easily getting things done on the iPhone may be numbered, as Linux, the operating system that seems to exist solely for the purpose of seeing which devices that were not meant to run it can be forced to run it, can add another notch on its belt – the iPhone. The iPhone Dev Team has successfully booted Linux on the iPhone, and like most “successful” Linux ports, this one is missing half the features and nearly all the functionality you would think a successful iPhone port would have, yet still Linux geeks are calling it a success.

So what’s missing? Well, how about a little thing like support for the touchscreen. What do you do, shake the iPhone to enter text or navigate? Oh wait, no, there is no accelerometer support either. Hmmm.. well it’s probably all voice activated then. What? No sound either? Hmm… Well, good thing I always carry a USB cable, computer and keyboard with me!

Check out the video below to see just how amazingly useful this months-long effort to redefine “user unfriendliness” is.

iPhone Linux Demonstration Video from planetbeing on Vimeo. Above: What could be simpler?

Wow, I am positively drooling. I already have Linux running on my Roomba and my electric toothbrush, so this will really make things easier for me at home. Sure, it takes me an extra hour or so to brush my teeth, but it’s totally worth it. After all, it’s running Linux! And nothing is cooler than running Linux.

Santa Claus is coming to town… er, the Apple Store

Santa knows these days the kids don’t want wooden, elf-built toys, wagons and dolls – they want iPods, just like everyone else on the planet, and it looks like Santa and his friends will be hitting the Apple Store this holiday season to stock up.

Above: The figures look quite similar to the Rankin/Bass-esque holiday “I’m a Mac” commercial of last year.

Brooklyn-based company Lite Brite Neon has been tapped to construct some iPod-loving Santa and Elf statues to help promote the iPods in the Apple Stores. Apparently each of the 5-foot tall statues is shipped in pieces and meant to be assembled on-site by the Apple Store employees. Lite Brite Neon has posted 2 online videos (one for Santa, one for the Elf) demonstrating how to piece the statues together, and most importantly, how to thread the delicate neon iPod headphone cords. If you don’t mind graphic depictions of decapitated Santa’s and Elves, they are worth a look.

Well, here’s something we can all be thankful for, pictures of Megan Fox and her iPhone. We’ve seen the two out together before, but somehow this is one celebrity couple we never grow tired of.

All I can say is thank God she wears outfits too tight to fit an iPhone, or we would have no excuse to print these. (By the way, wtf is up with her boots?)

“Apple Store Munich Soon has come”

If I am reading this very awkwardly Google-translated page correctly, Germany is just moments away from getting its first Apple Store. Located on Rose Street in Munich, the facade is currently covered in iPod nanos in a nod to the Bavarian flag, but it appears to be yet another glass-monster Apple Store.

One interesting fact we learn from this article (presumably written by Yoda) is that apparently Apple’s record sales last quarter were due to the fact that the staff of a very rich man or woman bought over half of all the Apple merchandise sold.

This year alone, more than 100 million customers worldwide now one of the 250 Apple stores visited. In the last quarter, where sales of Apple’s 1.72 billion U.S. dollars made per store (base 226 stores) on average 7.6 million. Nearly 600,000 Macs, the staff in the last three months of the man or the woman brought over half of them, according to initial purchasers of Apple Macs have been.

Now that Apple has launched the iTunes app store, there are 1000’s of battery-draining reasons why you would seek out a dockable battery pack for your iPhone 3G. Mophie ’s Juice Pack was the most publicized, if not the first, iPhone battery pack for the first generation iPhone, and, after a few false starts, they have finally begun shipping an iPhone 3G-compatible model.

“Stack the Memory to the Sky” – Apple music tribute

What do you get when you cross “Office Space” with “The Office” and then pretend Macs are widely used in the corporate world? You get an awesome piece of pro Seagate/Apple propaganda in the form of a music video by The Sniper Twins, featuring way more production value than you would think anyone would put into something like this. The whole thing was allegedly shot at Tekserve’s HQ “On company time”. Nice job guys!

Apple gives iPhone owners what they’ve been craving with the 2.2 update

That’s right. Apple has sifted through the tens of thousands of e-mails loaded with iPhone feature requests, and they have finally given in and given iPhone and iPod touch users the most universally demanded feature, namely, the ability to take a photo of your lock screen.

Above: Oh Thank GOD!

Yes, this presented a BIG problem for Phone users under the previous firmware, and in order to catch a shot of the lock screen, you had to be extremely quick or have a lot of free time. But now thanks to Apple putting this feature at the top of their to-do list, we can all finally get back to work. Thanks Apple!

“Women’s issues” spawn some of the creepiest iPhone applications available

November 24, 2008 by Dr. Macenstein · 10 Comments
Filed under: Humor, Opinion, iPhone, iPod Touch

Women are beautiful creatures that have excited and fascinated man since the dawn of time. However, much the way many women enjoy driving a car but have no interest in how the engine works, most men do not want to know what goes on inside a woman, even one they love. For some reason, with the exception of a few freaks, guys find women’s issues somewhat creepy, and they become even creepier when turned into iPhone applications. Here are some of my favorites.

Breastfeeding Yes, I realize breastfeeding is one of nature’s miracles and all, but at the end of the day, there is still milk coming out of you, and that’s a little weird. I’m not sure how women got by before the iPhone. My mom raised 3 boys without an iPhone application that kept track of which breast she last fed us with, although now that I think of it, she’s totally lopsided. Maybe she could have used this app after all. I find this app disturbing not only for existing, but that bra looks like such a grandma bra to me, and the thought of breastfeeding is creepy enough without bringing grandma into the equation.

Granted I have never breastfed anyone, but the usefulness of this type of app escapes me. It seems that the times most women might get mixed up as to which breast they last used would be those 1AM, 3AM, and 5AM feedings, times when you are more likely to groggily pick up a cat and try to start feeding than have your iPhone handy to make an entry. Still, there are now five breastfeeding apps available on the iTunes store.

Baby Tracker: Nursing gets a special creepy mention for using a safety pic to indicate which breast was last used. Ouch!

Ovulation Calendar Ahh, if only every woman had an “Avoid Pregnancy” switch. But seriously girls, if you want to avoid getting pregnant, show your boyfriend the “Discharge Length” tracker. You should be safe for the rest of the day. Read more
