If Justin Long is a resident of California, it very well could be that he is using marijuana per a doctor orders thus completely legal. Its not to say that he even is smoking pot in the movie, he very well could have been using an herb or leaf that does not contain THC. But, my point is, even if he was, he may have been doing so completely within the limits of the law.
