Media Temple sucks, Part 2

cartoon via PCWeenies Well, THAT sucked…. Our outage today was (for once) not directly related to Media Temple, other than we finally got so fed up with them that we moved the site to a new host. Unfortunately, things did not go all that smoothly (for some reason the database was merged with that of another site we have on Media Temple). We’re not sure why that happened, but in the end we are now about 50% sure we are now up and running. So let us know if you notice... Read More

It’s called “Synergy”

A couple eagle-eyed viewers have written us after noticing some fairly obvious Apple product placements in the newly-released on DVD Disney movie BOLT. First up we have the lady with a MacBook, that somehow does not have an illuminated Apple logo… … followed by Miley Cyrus’s agent’s 1st gen iPhone. Now, BOLT came out last year, so this is obviously not groundbreaking news (although I think quite a few of us missed BOLT in the theaters). But Apple product... Read More

Well, that’s ONE way to hurt iPod sales….

Microsoft’s latest weapon against the iPod: The BSOD Faithful Macenstein reader George writes: So I’m returning from the World Air Hockey Championships in Las Vegas and at the LAS airport I see an Apple branded vending machine for iPods so I run over to take a look and replace my stolen nano and as I whip out my card to pay I notice the damn thing is run by Windows and is displaying the Windows standard screen, you know BSOD! I hope Apple uses a better OS on the... Read More

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Well, St. Patrick’s Day kind of snuck up on us this year, so we’re just going to go ahead and do what we did last year, give away an obnoxious Bagpiping iPhone ringtone to you all! Above: Bill puts the “Mac” in “McEvoy”. Yes, we’re well aware that our readers are raging alcoholics and will likely begin drinking at 5PM this afternoon (if they haven’t already), and not stop until sometime after Labor Day. So, in an effort to give... Read More

OK, I admit it, I don’t really care if we get copy and paste on the iPhone

OK, I admit it, I don’t really care if we get copy and paste on the iPhone. I just kind of got all caught up in the “Hey! Where the hell’s the copy and paste?!?” sentiment that swept the web two years ago when the original iPhone launched. Wait… Seriously? How did it happen? Having never used a Blackberry before, but being of the firm belief they were now the enemy, I knew I was supposed to be outraged that Blackberry users could not only copy text,... Read More

iTunes 8.1 finally supports 3 finger swipes

I’m not sure how I missed this as I am a big 3-finger fan, but apparently the iTunes 8.1 update finally added (some) support for 3-finger track pad swipes. I guess it falls under the “You will enjoy noticeable improvements when working with large libraries, browsing the iTunes Store, preparing to sync with iPod or iPhone, and optimizing photos for syncing.” part of the iTunes 8.1 update. Unfortunately, it only works for navigation, at the moment. Trying to scroll... Read More

The iMac Shuffle

Introducing the new iMac shuffle. It’s the desktop that had everything. Now, there’s less. We’ve taken out that pesky glass screen and carved the entire computer out of aluminum, for extra sturdiness. Why no screen? Well, we wanted to make the iMac shuffle even more lightweight than its predecessors, and make sure that there was nothing to distract you from the Apple logo. For inspiration, we looked to our newest, most brilliant product… the new iPod... Read More

Will Apple sell iPhone themes on iTunes?

With Apple previewing version 3.0 of the iPhone software next week, it’s a safe bet we’re going to be seeing at least a couple major new features, but will custom themes be one of them? Well, it should be. Here’s why. First, the cell phone market is not quite the same as the computer market. Apple has maintained an extremely tight grip on the look and feel of OS X running on its Macs, forcing those looking to personalize the look of their desktops to seek... Read More
