Free Mimobot of the Week: Darth Maul!
[Thank you, we have our winner! Congrats to faithful Macenstein reader Quintin!]
We’ve once again teamed up with our good friends over at Mimoco to bring you a feature we know everyone loves - The Free MIMOBOT of the week contest! In celebration of the release of Mimoco’s Series 4 Star Wars Mimobots, each week we’ll be offering you a chance to win a different 2 GB MIMOBOT from the series.

Remember how excited you were when you saw Darth Maul in the trailer?
This week we are giving away a super cool Darth Maul Mimobot. Yes, Darth Maul, pretty much the only redeemable thing we can take away from Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Remember how you almost crapped your pants when you saw Darth Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber? Well, you’re friends will definitely need a change of underwear when they see the Darth Maul mimobot’s butt light up red as you transfer files!
To Enter: OK, there’s no denying The Phantom Menace didn’t exactly live up to MY expectations (but then as a child of the 80’s, how could it?). So this week to enter, simply tell us what is the one movie in your life you have MOST looked forward to? It may or may not have lived up to your expectations, but thanks to clever trailer editing, everyone’s gotten excited about seeing a movie at some point or another. Winner will be picked randomly. Contest ends seven days from now and is open to all readers world-wide. Good luck!

Spider-Man. Back when rumors were that Cameron would direct and DiCaprio would be Spider-Man. Tobey McGuire didn’t exist back then.
Believe it or not I really looked forward to Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. I was 8 and a half years old when it came out, and I loved it.
I honestly think “The Phantom Menace” was the movie I was most excited about seeing.
Or maybe “My Name Is Bruce.”
heck yes to Lucion, amazing movie. i was really excited to see the first power rangers movie when i was a kid. i thought it would be the best thing ever. and it has totally withstood the stand of time
As another child of the 80’s, would you believe the animated Transformers movie? It was the only time I thought Rodimus was cool
Serenity. And it lived up to the expectations.
Masters of the Universe I was a HARD CORE heman fan as a kid i had every single figure and vehicle and both castles i even had the horde even though they were She-ra’s enimies
and read every bit of info on the movie
when i finally saw it i remember thinking parts of it were boring and other parts scared me
I’ve seen it since BOY is it crap
you have no idea how much i want the rumored remake to not suck to redeem it
Fight Club.
Probably Lord of the Rings The Return of the King. Badass.
Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom!
Can’t remember. Most recently it was The Dark Night.
james bond
The Hangover!
recently coraline
harry potter 4 i am so sad ain’t i”?
The Matrix: Revolutions. With the “to be continued” at the end of Reloaded, how couldn’t I’ve been eager?
It’s got to be The Last Star Fighter
I was really eager to see the Lord of the Rings… and it almost lived up to my pretty high expectations
The Matrix.
All those “What is the Matrix?” questions and little games on the web, and you weren’t really sure, what this film would be about.
Really enjoyed the film and even the two sequels. Maybe one of the first movies with viral marketing like playing the game, watching Animatrix and all those hidden things on their website. “steak”, do I need to say more?
Probably Transformers (the first one…)
A huge Xmen fan as a kid so when i heard there was a movie i was very excited.
Lord Of The Rings
Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith was it.
Matrix (first one)
The Lord of the Rings
Well, the new superman… But only for the brief time it was supposed to be directed by Tim Burton and starring Nicolas Cage…
That one was supposed to be a pearl!!!
That movie with DeNiro and Pacino that came out last year…Righteous Kill. This small early cut trailer had NIN’s Heresy playing over it…It looked like a cheesy 80s movie - quite literally amazing. Of course we all know the results of that one.
Lord Of The Rings - The Fellowship of the ring. I loved the book, so I was anxious to see what will be made of it
I’m going to have to say Phantom Menace. I was a Sophomore in high school when it came out. I bought tickets to both the midnight showing and they first showing in the morning the next day (which meant that I skipped a day of school).
Man was I disappointed.
Underworld
Star Wars: Episodes 1,2, & 3. I remember waiting in line for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Waiting in line with my son was something that I will always remember.
“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”.
Flash Gordon
X-Men Origins: Wolverine, ’cause i was really lookink forward to seeing deadpool ’cause he is awesome, but after i saw it I was so dissapointed on how they portrayed him
The Empire Strikes Back.
I still recall grabbing a bus to get to the theater on opening night (being a Sophmore in High School) to get to a _standing room only_ showing a few towns away. It was amazing.
Only to be betrayed by fuzzy teddy bears a few years later (sigh).
Flubber :-)Really
The Matrix. I know, it sounds like a fanboy. I’m.
Back to the Future sequels. I didn’t know they existed until my dad pointed them out and we travelled to Blockbuster…
I spent a huge chunk of my life drinking alcoholicly and using any drug I could get my hands on…. What was the question again? Ah, I remember. I prefer nachos with ground beef to those made with chicken.
Probably Transformers (the recent live-action one).
American McGee’s Alice - several Movie Pages said there would be a movie based on the computer game within 2009 starring Sarah Michelle Gellar as Alice .. didn’t come out so far -.-
Star Wars Episode I - the first star wars I could watch when it was originally released.
You said it, The Phantom Menace. I must have watched the trailer 200+ times before seeing the actual movie. It was also the first movie I watched on the big screen despite having a bootleg on the hard drive (bootleg available before the release - very hard wait).
#2 was Attack of the Clones. Watched that trailer 100+ times also.
It’s a toss up really - I remember how much I looked forward to seeing Return of the Jedi and at the time, I couldn’t get enough of the Ewoks. Then I remember standing in line and waiting to see Tim Burton’s Batman for hours the weekend it came out and all the talk of the history of the character, wearing the shirts, and repeating every line from the trailers over and over again. Great times.
Lord Of the Rings….
May the luck be with you.
It’s a tossup between Underworld and Star Trek
Shining the feel good movie of the summer
I’m lookin forward to the Macenstein movie… Whenever it’ll be released…
And I knw nobody ever says it but PLEEEEEEEASE, please can I have the Darth Maul Mimibot?
You’ve never met a bigger suck-up than me… admit it, that was a good attempt, doc…
Star Wars Phantom Menace or The Watchmen
The new Star Trek movie. And then it sadly turned out to be total crap… and no real Trek at all… Stupid shit…
Star Wars Return of the Jedi.
a bunch of us lined up a couple hours for the matinee premiere showing. but what we didn’t count on was that the theatre would be full of mostly little kids (it was the matinee, after all) screaming and cheering loudly EVERY time one of the main characters came on screen - we couldn’t hear any of the dialog during the movie.
Superman Returns. So-so..
National Tresure Part-Book of Secrets. I’m into the conspiracy stuff
Casino Royale. the Return of cool bond…
when i was a kid, it was the pokemon movie… ahhahaa.. i remenber wanting to see that shit sooooo bad.. and i was a kid, and it was pokemon, so of course it lived up.. they could do whatever the fuck they wanted, as a kid i would have loved it…
I would have to say Lord of the Rings. After seeing a trailer and having to wait over a year to see it.
Iron Man
Since Star Wars Epi. I was the first one that I saw, I gotta say Epi. II was my most anticipated movie!
Toy Story
The New Star Trek when they was showing the Teasers
Lord of the Rings
Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy! So excited when that came out. It also didn’t turn out to be a complete disappointment.
Probably it is Lord of the Rings; Fellowship of the Ring. Read the books when younger, reread when older. This was such an epic tale and popular series I wanted it to be good so much. So many people got into the stories after seeing the first movie too. I think it was one of the best adaptations that could have been done. Still waiting for the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov to be done on the big screen.
Transformers!!!
Sex and the City - but I am a girl so please forgive me!
Barely legal 3.
That have to be The Lord of The Rings, all three movies!
Loved them all too.
Sphere.
An amazing book, great cast, horrid film.
Exorcist: Beginning. It was ok, didn’t quite live up to my expectations, but it was still good
the simpsons movie hahahaha
Watchmen. The comic was just so good. But then Snyder grabbed it and mutilated it. The new ending sucks even MORE than the one in the comic, but there were still parts than shined through, like Rorschach :3
The Darjeeling Limited (2007)
i’m a wes anderson fan and the trailers really inspired me. the movie actually prompted me to do some soul searching on my own. i still love the movie, and i’ll try to watch it once a year or so.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Movie
Matrix
Tenacious D movie!
Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace
Perfume: The Story of a Murderer
I read the book a few months earlier (:
Wall-E!
The Phantom Menace. It was the first of the Prequel trilogy, we’re going to see Anakin when he’s still cute, and saw the awesome Darth Maul.
I must say Star Wars Ep. 1. I was a freshman in college and 20ish of us took turns sitting in line for a week during finals so we could all do our tests and final projects. We got all over the news and radio and got a ton of free shit as well. The theater even let us in 20 minutes early to pick our seats ahead of time.
Myself and 2 others who where in adv. freshman 3d animation bought an extra ticket and took our prof. on opening night, who’s class we skipped all week besides turing in our projects, he told us we were guaranteed C’s if we didn’t turn in a final animation project
Good thing we had done A+ work ahead of time and passed with flying colors
After a long struggle to get the film made his way, Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are.
Locker Room Towel Fights: The Blinding of Larry Driscoll
Star Trek (2009)
Gran Torino!
3001 A Space Odyssey
Oh, wait…
Jurassic Park
Probably Star Trek. The first movie definitely didn’t live up to my expectations, but I couldn’t wait to see it.
The Phantom Menace for sure. Especially as I was working on it.
Wolverine
Maybe National Lampoon’s Vacation, ’cause I heard Christie Brinkley was naked in it, and I was a horny young teenager…
Chocolate
A Thai martial arts action film whose main character is an autistic 17 year old girl that learns to fight for her ill mother with cancer against a mob boss who is obsessed with her.
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
Star Trek: The motion picture.
I guess that dates me!
Any of the Star Wars !!! I’m still looking forward for another in the series … I hope George Lucas is still thinking of making some more … pls … pls … pls … Mr. Lucas … if U see this … make some more movies of Star Wars !!!
Tie between “Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith” & “Watchmen.” I was looking forward to finally seeing the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan in “Sith” and am a huge fan of the “Watchmen” graphic novel.
SW EP I: The Phantom menace
After classic Star Wars Trilogy we were expecting something really big… It was it?…..
I think its UP
I really looked forward to Transformers. Too bad the movie didn’t keep the integrity of the cartoon series by making Megatron a gun.
star wars, episode 1
The Mummy 2
Star Wars - back in ‘77. I was only 12 and it was great!
Kill Bill
Baseketball - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0131857/
I Am Legend, with Will Smith
It’s hard to say because there were the Spiderman movies, then there was Batman Begins, then Transformers, then Dark Knight.
I guess now it will be Transformers 2 because the first one was so good (compared to how I thought it was going to be) that I want to see what they do with the second one.
Incidentally Spiderman got worse as it progressed completely screwing over really cool characters but Batman has continuously got better which is the complete reverse of those horrible horrible Joel Schmuckmaker Batman movies.
There’s only one series that has progressively got worse with each new episode and that’s been the new Knight Rider series. They tried to blame the actors for that but frankly they really really need to look at the writers for the blame.
As a guy that grew up in the 80’s, the movie I’m MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO: “Thundercats” Hell yeah!… or should I say Hooooooooooooooo! Currently in development: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1047015/
Hope it comes out soon! But it may be a couple of years still…
Rockadoodle. No lies I was super excited as a kid and somehow ignored the scenes wwith the kid in it.
TMNT
the Hulk and it sucked
TMNT (2007) as well.
I’ve always been a fan of the turtles and loved Secret of the Ooze, so I was pretty excited when I heard a fourth movie was coming out.
the matrix also only one ever to live up to expectaions
The Matrix
Transformers (the first one), hoping the second can live up to the expectations.
Brazil
mario bros.. definitely did not meet my expectations.
Lord Of the Rings
The first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Have to say Batman… I’m Batman!
waiting for robotech- live action movie…. hearts..
Transformers II… Still waiting OMG!!!!
The Da Vinci Code but still have not seen it to this day.
BATMAN!!! (1989)
I was first in line, I even got interviewed on the local TV.
The Chipmunk Adventure. I was 6 years old, quintessentially pumped about it. Still love it to this day.
watchmen…………. I read the comics, but actually the movie disappoint me.
The Green Lantern movie! I’m still waiting of course…
mine was Terminator 3:Rise of the Machines
which did not live up to my expectations at all and was just such an awful movie. makes me cringe each time i think about it.
yet in anticipation for its release, i was dreaming of something epic.
I just thought of another one.
Voltron.
Man I want to see how they do that if the rumours are true.
I loved Voltron.
The Lord of the Rings, all 3 episodes! and the 4th Indiana Jones.
Star Wars Episode One… all my friends and I skipped school to see it… the news crews were out interviewing people n stuff….
Man, what a disappointment.
Dude where’s my car? haha, just kidding.
The Matrix
Star Trek. I have never been so excited for a movie in my life.
Phantom Menace. 16 years of waiting between movies. And we all know where that went.
Ghostbusters 2 (didn’t live up to expectations though).
I ALWAYS look forward to ANY of the Harry Potter movies…can’t wait for July when the next one comes out! Woo hoo!
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull did not live up to expectations… I am still trying to unwatch it South Park style!
the Dark Knight
The first Batman….Only movie I ever slept at the theater for!
I AM LEGEND, the book was AmAzInG, and they RUINED the ending, WHY WERE THEY ZOMBIES, THEY WERE SUPPOSED TO BE VAMPIRES!!!!!!!
Rambo, the last one they came out with, I still havent seen it, I think the trailer sums it up, I dont want to ruin it, the song in the trailer was sweet too
Was probably when they re-released STAR WARS to the cinema - 1992 ? I’d seen it on the big screen as a kid (was only 5) - and to see it “again” for the “first time” was amazing.
So many MORE things I got out of - I remember chuckling at hearing R2-D2’s noises, and the sound of the Star Destroyer - amazing on the BIG screen - bigger & better than ever !
The Matrix - I knew there was something gold in them that hills… and it delivered beyond the trailer, cleverly keeping all the great surprises out of the trailer. It was The One.
Watchmen. I’m a huge fan of the graphic novel, and the trailers promised something pretty damn close. The movie itself didn’t fall to short either which was nice.
As I was a bit too young to be bitter about ewoks, I have to say Return of the Jedi.
Back to the Future 2.
I was 5 when it first came out and I watched it over and over and over and I would always see the “To be continued!” at the end and long for a continuation of the adventures of Marty and Doc Brown.
And they FINALLY released the sequel, years later. And it was Awesome.
–Er, to clarify, I was 5 when the ORIGINAL Back to the Future came out.
I’m going to have to say Dick Tracy. As a kid, the idea of having a cool watch-phone was epic.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls…and no, it did not live up to my expectations.
Seed of Chucky
Kill Bill. Always been a Tarantino fan, Kill Bill was the longest wait between his movies.
the matrix.
come on, they teased the hell out of us with those, um, teasers.
I think the one that got me most excited must be 300. The first time I heard of it I wasn’t that interested. Saw a one sheet for it and thought, hey, doesn’t seem that bad. But when I saw the first trailer (can’t remember if it was the teaser but I think not) I thought WOWBAZAMWOW!!!! I just HAD to see it!
A very close second is The Matrix. When the first trailers came out and no-one knew what the heck the Matrix was or anything I just had to see it. My sensations when I left the theatre were that THIS was how all films should make me feel when they ended.
That’s all.

Back To The Future (obviously parts 2 and 3)
After watching the original trilogy every day after school, starting when I was 6, and being able to recite the words verbatim, the movie I looked most forward to was Episode I - The Phantom Menace, and luckily it came out when I was young enough to not think it was terrible. but watching it now, you just have to wonder why Lucas replaced the coolest Sith apprentice EVER with Count Dooku.
Iron Man. Must’ve watched the trailer a dozen times.
Delicatessen, 1991, watch it again and again
Transformers: revenge of the fallen. Ad it completely lived up to expectations. big mother effing robots fighting and Megan fox. What’s better than that
