Free Mimobot of the Week: Darth Maul!

June 20, 2009 by Dr. Macenstein
Filed under: Awesomeness, Free Stuff, contests

[Thank you, we have our winner! Congrats to faithful Macenstein reader Quintin!]

We’ve once again teamed up with our good friends over at Mimoco to bring you a feature we know everyone loves - The Free MIMOBOT of the week contest! In celebration of the release of Mimoco’s Series 4 Star Wars Mimobots, each week we’ll be offering you a chance to win a different 2 GB MIMOBOT from the series.

Remember how excited you were when you saw Darth Maul in the trailer?

This week we are giving away a super cool Darth Maul Mimobot. Yes, Darth Maul, pretty much the only redeemable thing we can take away from Episode One: The Phantom Menace. Remember how you almost crapped your pants when you saw Darth Maul’s double-bladed lightsaber? Well, you’re friends will definitely need a change of underwear when they see the Darth Maul mimobot’s butt light up red as you transfer files!

To Enter: OK, there’s no denying The Phantom Menace didn’t exactly live up to MY expectations (but then as a child of the 80’s, how could it?). So this week to enter, simply tell us what is the one movie in your life you have MOST looked forward to? It may or may not have lived up to your expectations, but thanks to clever trailer editing, everyone’s gotten excited about seeing a movie at some point or another. Winner will be picked randomly. Contest ends seven days from now and is open to all readers world-wide. Good luck!

All those “What is the Matrix?” questions and little games on the web, and you weren’t really sure, what this film would be about.
Really enjoyed the film and even the two sequels. Maybe one of the first movies with viral marketing like playing the game, watching Animatrix and all those hidden things on their website. “steak”, do I need to say more?

#2 was Attack of the Clones. Watched that trailer 100+ times also.

  88. It’s a toss up really – I remember how much I looked forward to seeing Return of the Jedi and at the time, I couldn’t get enough of the Ewoks. Then I remember standing in line and waiting to see Tim Burton’s Batman for hours the weekend it came out and all the talk of the history of the character, wearing the shirts, and repeating every line from the trailers over and over again. Great times.

a bunch of us lined up a couple hours for the matinee premiere showing. but what we didn’t count on was that the theatre would be full of mostly little kids (it was the matinee, after all) screaming and cheering loudly EVERY time one of the main characters came on screen – we couldn’t hear any of the dialog during the movie.

  126. Probably it is Lord of the Rings; Fellowship of the Ring. Read the books when younger, reread when older. This was such an epic tale and popular series I wanted it to be good so much. So many people got into the stories after seeing the first movie too. I think it was one of the best adaptations that could have been done. Still waiting for the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov to be done on the big screen.

We got all over the news and radio and got a ton of free shit as well. The theater even let us in 20 minutes early to pick our seats ahead of time.

Myself and 2 others who where in adv. freshman 3d animation bought an extra ticket and took our prof. on opening night, who’s class we skipped all week besides turing in our projects, he told us we were guaranteed C’s if we didn’t turn in a final animation project :P Good thing we had done A+ work ahead of time and passed with flying colors :P

I guess now it will be Transformers 2 because the first one was so good (compared to how I thought it was going to be) that I want to see what they do with the second one.

Incidentally Spiderman got worse as it progressed completely screwing over really cool characters but Batman has continuously got better which is the complete reverse of those horrible horrible Joel Schmuckmaker Batman movies.

There’s only one series that has progressively got worse with each new episode and that’s been the new Knight Rider series. They tried to blame the actors for that but frankly they really really need to look at the writers for the blame.

which did not live up to my expectations at all and was just such an awful movie. makes me cringe each time i think about it.

yet in anticipation for its release, i was dreaming of something epic.

  277. Rambo, the last one they came out with, I still havent seen it, I think the trailer sums it up, I dont want to ruin it, the song in the trailer was sweet too

  279. Was probably when they re-released STAR WARS to the cinema – 1992 ? I’d seen it on the big screen as a kid (was only 5) – and to see it “again” for the “first time” was amazing.

So many MORE things I got out of – I remember chuckling at hearing R2-D2’s noises, and the sound of the Star Destroyer – amazing on the BIG screen – bigger & better than ever !

  280. G Davis on Thu, 25th Jun 2009 8:28 am
  281. The Matrix – I knew there was something gold in them that hills… and it delivered beyond the trailer, cleverly keeping all the great surprises out of the trailer. It was The One.

  282. The Waterman on Thu, 25th Jun 2009 8:58 am
  283. Watchmen. I’m a huge fan of the graphic novel, and the trailers promised something pretty damn close. The movie itself didn’t fall to short either which was nice.

  285. As I was a bit too young to be bitter about ewoks, I have to say Return of the Jedi.

  286. Locoweed on Thu, 25th Jun 2009 12:29 pm
  287. Back to the Future 2.

I was 5 when it first came out and I watched it over and over and over and I would always see the “To be continued!” at the end and long for a continuation of the adventures of Marty and Doc Brown.

And they FINALLY released the sequel, years later. And it was Awesome.

–Er, to clarify, I was 5 when the ORIGINAL Back to the Future came out.

  289. I’m going to have to say Dick Tracy. As a kid, the idea of having a cool watch-phone was epic.

  291. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls…and no, it did not live up to my expectations.

  297. the matrix.
come on, they teased the hell out of us with those, um, teasers.

  299. I think the one that got me most excited must be 300. The first time I heard of it I wasn’t that interested. Saw a one sheet for it and thought, hey, doesn’t seem that bad. But when I saw the first trailer (can’t remember if it was the teaser but I think not) I thought WOWBAZAMWOW!!!! I just HAD to see it!
A very close second is The Matrix. When the first trailers came out and no-one knew what the heck the Matrix was or anything I just had to see it. My sensations when I left the theatre were that THIS was how all films should make me feel when they ended.

    That’s all. :)

  303. After watching the original trilogy every day after school, starting when I was 6, and being able to recite the words verbatim, the movie I looked most forward to was Episode I – The Phantom Menace, and luckily it came out when I was young enough to not think it was terrible. but watching it now, you just have to wonder why Lucas replaced the coolest Sith apprentice EVER with Count Dooku.

  304. JorgeLuisBorges on Sat, 27th Jun 2009 8:34 am
  305. Iron Man. Must’ve watched the trailer a dozen times.
