The contest is over. Congratulations to faithful Macenstein reader kirkgray!
On the Second Day After Christmas, Macenstein gave to you (or, more accurately, gave you a chance to win…) About a million apps and games for your new iPhone or iPod touch!
OK, maybe not a million, but over 50, which is well over THREE FULL PAGES of apps to get you started on your new device! Now, these apps are going to be delivered to you via Promo codes which you enter into iTunes like gift cards to get the free apps. BUT BE WARNED! These codes DO expire, and they will expire soon. So while we will make every effort to contact winners via e-mail, you may want to check back here in 5 days (January 1st) to see if you’ve won, and you DO win, we suggest you redeem the codes immediately, lest you come complaining to us that the codes don’t work and we laugh at you. coldplays strawberry swing, because you had to unlock the video (the only reason i purchased the app) by playing a ton of crappy games.
CoPilot Live North America because not only does it take forever to calculate the route but half the time i’m driving in some area between roads according to the not so easy to read map that’s displayed. Not to mention the fact that no matter how many times I mess with the setting OR restore my iPhone completely it always announces the turn I’m supposed to make when I’m ~5 feet away from it or have already driven almost a half a mile past it.
I’d say the XBox Guide app is the most disappointing app. It takes forever to load and even longer to find the game I’m looking for. There’s no built in search, either. It’s just horrible.
AT&T’s “Mark The Spot” which, in the greatest of all ironies, is supposed to allow you to inform AT&T of when you get a dropped call, loss of network etc, but that at each time I’ve used it I’ve received a “No Network” error and the app has crashed… *sigh*. AT&T: 0, IRONY: 1
Well, so far even the more disappointing apps I have downloaded weren’t that bad. Most of the “bad ones” are actually pretty decent and worth the price.
If I have to pick the one that have disappointed me it would have to be “Star Wars Trench Run”. The game pretty much repeats itself and isn’t complex enough to entertain me beyond the initial excitement of flying an X-Wing though the death star trenches (which is exiting for about 30 seconds).
It’s not a bad game – just repetitive and without much reply value. Could have been more. So yes, somewhat a disappointment.
I have to say it’s spite & malice lite… just a bad name to a great game.
iMated. Rubbish.
The ifart app… Not. Worth. It.
Oregon Trail. I played it once and died of dysentery. Haven’t played since.
Vonage Mobile. Does NOTHING with my current vonage plan. I should be able to at LEAST listen to my voicemail! Geesh!
AT&T’s application was disappointing to me as well.
The worst app? Bluetooth photo share
Lame app called OXXO.
apps? what ‘r apps?
Battle.net Mobile Authenticator It has locked me out of my account many a times. and removing the Authenticator is always a pain!!!!!!!!!
I’d have to say Moto Chaser was a wasted $10.
I don’t even recall the name of the app — it was free, and was supposed to be an interesting game, but it had no directions, and after playing for about a minute it would freeze up. I deleted it, and haven’t thought about it since.
With my luck, it was probably scraping my address book and sending it off someplace….
Action Item
Booyah!
it had $4.5 million from the iFund financing, was developed by folks at Blizzard, and was released to huge expectation.
it was kinda boring. i deleted it from my iPhone after 5 minutes.
Probably Asphalt, if only because Rela Racing came out shortly after and blew it away in terms of quality. I’ve been pretty good at only buying apps I want though.
Dog Whistler
rogue touch, the controls/responsiveness was bad for me and my first gen touch
Harry Potter: Spells was really disappointing.
at&t’s mark the spot app
C&C Red Alert – its boring!
How about Pepsi’s Before Your Score.
Oregon Trail
I haven’t bought a disappointing app
Sims 3 because it runs so slowly on my iPod touch 1G! I haven’t downloaded any other games ever since
VT Mobile Trader. Needs work, bad.
SpaceMonkey
“I am rich” was a disappointment. The real bummer was buying it again to put on my wife’s phone before Apple started letting us share apps. I was also a beta tester for an app that used the accelerometer to measure the intensity of a hammer-strike. That one was pure let-down as well.
Vector Blaster was supposed to be like Tempest but it did not deliver.
Pepsi’s Before You Score…scary
Oh this one’s easy. Has to be Vimeo for iPhone. Think never worked and was the biggest waste of 2 bucks ever.
Most disappointing was Craigsphone.
I think it was called “dots”. It didn’t make any sense.
Crossword Blitz
I was hoping for more from the flickr app.
Sounds Grenage
super monkey ball
My most disappointing app: Dark Raider 3GS.
My most disappointing app was The Price is Right, i like the show so i thought the game would be decent, its ok, but i don’t think worth the money i paid for it.
Paypal
Flickr app I was hoping for a lot more from it.
Myst. Sorry, but the near random tapping to interact isn’t my style. It’s like a Microsoft game.
Bing
Tiger Woods. I prefer Let’s Golf.
Day two and here’s wishing!
Doodle Golf
BeeTagg Reader
believe it or not, Loopt
iMafia, oh wait, I’ve been killed gotta go.
WiFiRemote
Had to be an app/game called shooter or sniper. Just bad. Boring.
Definitely iGirl, she doesn’t even get naked! c’mon!
LinkedIn. It’s just such a lame app
Ghostbusters…. I clicked too fast thinking it was the older version
ibody
The “Days of Thunder” racing game, the AI acted more like it was a demolition derby.
This is easy. But where to start. DO NOT get Loopt. Just a lame app and doesnt work unless ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS are on the same loopt. immediately deleted.
Air Mouse Pro – I had visions of making my iPhone into a Magic Mouse, but it fell short of the goal. I’m sure it works great for setups where you’re not at a desk, but a mouse replacement it is not for everything else… :-/
isperm, definitely isperm
I’ve had a couple, but I don’t remember them. I just delete them and move on.
Hook me up!
cardstar. just didn’t work for me.
Annoy a teen… My kids are oblivious to it, shit!
Hold On!
Catch The Egg. Really? That’s the best they can do?
I was disappointed with koi pond, it was so hyped up, but I just didn’t get it.
lemmings for sure..
Card Star. I can’t get it to work with any scanner, so I still have my little keychain cards with me.
Jelly SMS…. worst app ever!
this is jolly wizard!
Flash Light
SimCity crashed my phone more than anything else ever came close to. . . unbelievable from a house as large as EA.
Touch Scale is a dumb iPhone App… the thing does not measures weight for real (it has a warning about it), so ok… it is just for fun, but using it is not funny at all. Just a waste of space and download time.
The Sirius XM radio app, although the reason its disappointing has to do with their subscription practices rather than being a truly bad iPhone app. Making a subscriber, or has a year plan with internet radio included, pay extra solely to use their iPhone app is just wrong.
Who’s there.
AMP up before your score. lame. I can’t believe i gave it a download even. Or that I’m admitting it here.
TWSS
Ocarina. It looked nice and I liked the concept, but in practice it was useless to me.
Tap Tap Revenge 3, I can’t believe people paid for this and it has all those ads in it. If you’re paying for an app it should have any ads in it.
Tap Tap Revenge 3 also, but because it was pumped full of in-app purchases that I did not want to pay for.
iFart
Ultimate Countdown…sigh.
Probably Super Monkey Ball. Great in theory, entirely impossible in actuality.
iShoot Lite … crapy UI and interface … plus no real challenge …
Dexter..
game play is fun but you could beat it in an hour
barnes and noble ereader. just didnt like the set up of it
When the “scare” first came about, there was a “Swine Flu” app that was supposed to track updates and spreads of the virus. It totally blew, didn’t even work, always crashed.
My app that was good for the first 4 months but stopped working is Endless Walls. It downloaded random iPhone wallpapers and then stopped when the developer dumped development.
Bubble snap was the dumbest app I downloaded.
It was a bedtime story app. It was black and white and didn’t do anything but tell a story in four pages. Whoop-de-do!
Most disappointing app so far has to be ZenNews – was incredibly disappointed at the content, the bugginess, and the continual freezing / forcing restart of my iPhone 3GS to just get the app to work. Pathetic…
Pac-man lite. The controls were dreadful.
I have 52 apps on my iPhone.
Comcast cable app
Modern Combat: Sandstorm.
bing
Annoy-a-teen annoys me (not a teen for over 10 years)
Ping was a bit of a disappointment because it never worked correctly. Good thing I got it while it was free.
YPMobile. Why can’t we simply get the same white and yellow pages that come for free on our doorstep? Restaurants are missing and others already closed.
InTuna A440
It would have to be keyboard cat. fun for 15 seconds.
I like all my apps so far.
Pac-Man, controls were abysmal.
ACTPrinter – Print to iPhone…..who needs all that hassle when you have Evernote!!
For me, the LinkedIn app just crashes every time I try to use it. Very disappointing
AIM. AOL Instant Messenger…
It led me on a 48 hour runaround, a few months back, to take mistake text charges off my bill, that ended with a personal call from a head executive at AT&T.
Monkey toilet trainer..
point inside . supposed to give you map of malls. Only one listed within 100miles of me.
Jott was very promising at first, but once they change the membership plans, it became the most useless application on my iPhone.
SIm City, used it for a minute and returned it to the itunes store..which you can actually do
Ping. It isn’t reliable enough to use regularly. Constantly failing to download messages or just not delivering them at all.
A+ camera zoom… Sorry but that really dissapointed me :/…
G, the game
Evernote was the most disappointing app I’ve downloaded. Everyone raved about it, but I found it unintuitive, clumsy and down right hard to use. It offered tons of features at the cost of being difficult for me to use the features I wanted.
NetNewsWire was horrible – crashing all the time, completely unuseable. Really glad Google came out with a mobile version of Reader!
ifart
Cro-mag rally was definitely my biggest letdown.
None. I only have 3.
Knocking Vid. great idea that overloaded their servers so it was unusable.
Kindle for iPhone
Knocking Live Video. Hoped to be able to stream live video on the go. It wouldn’t even operate on my 3GS.
worst app: wifinder
Wait Watchers: Disneyland… Got the app so I could plan out my rides when I take my 4 year old twins. The app worked but the actual wait times are not updated. Rrrrrr.
Capital One Mascot Football Challenge
actually, it wasn’t much of a let down. it performed exactly like a real tabletop sheet metal football field.
it just got old in about 3 days.
I really believe that any lite version is my biggest let-down. Usually, they give you just enough to want the rest.
i.TV was great at first, but I had to delete it after they went crazy with ads and “social” junk. Now, I use the comcast app to get TV listings. Pretty sad.
Enigmo – the controls suck.
Wow, there have been so many. I try them out if they’re free and delete them if they don’t hold my interest. iPharaoh comes to mind as one that recently disappointed me.
Card star seemed very promising but the first 2 cards I tried using didn’t work under the scanners.
sign me up….I’ll have to wipe my iPod to handle this load…
It isn’t the worst, but the most disappointing has to be Shopper, which “updated” and added ads to a paid app.
GV Mobile Free, b/c you can’t get an updated version that works over the app store.
Fart apps….. they tire way to easily.
Tiger Woods Golf, you can’t cheat.
Early version of FlightTrack as it did not work well on my trip. But I do believe it has been much improved now.
naughty videos
Monkey Ball…Nice but hard to control.
That would be Command & Conquer…
I think “crashing” was the only feature that app has got..
FunMail. It was crashy from the start.
NetNewsWire it doesnt work as they said
a traffic controller game… booring!
wifinder, didnt even work after 3 installs
Fit 2 Vote. After trying this app, I wanted to skip voting.
The iamrich app, what a waste
vampire
smule ocarnia
didn’t work for me
The first Super Monkey Ball.
Trails… the app was great when I first downloaded it. Now it is confusing and useless. Somewhere along the way usability went by the wayside.
CardStar – I thought it was going to be helpful.
tripwolf. it just doesn’t cut it
i think… all of the farting apps have been a total bust.
milkcaps
The I Am Rich app…
wifinder
although my 8 yr old enjoyed it, Pee Monkey… some little monkey running around and peeing on stuff… so not what I wanted to see
The most disappointing I’ve downloaded was a basketball game, I can’t remember the name, with all the help files in Portuguese.
The game looked good but I could never figure out how it was played.
Most disappointing app that I’ve download is I Am T-Pain
super monkey ball
ifart. obviously.
