Filed under: Awesomeness, Free Stuff, contests

THIS CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. CONGRATULATIONS TO FAITHFUL MACESTEIN READER dlowe402.

Sure, we all love Apple and the ease of OS X, but sometimes there’s things you just can’t do on a Mac – like run the latest games, business software, and viruses. But who wants to go through all the trouble of partitioning their drive and rebooting into Boot Camp? When you HAVE to use Windows, you want to get in and out QUICK, and there’s nothing quicker than Parallels 5 for Mac. Optimized for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and boasting unmatched virtual machine performance, Parallels 5 lets you launch thousands of Windows apps directly from the Mac Dock. Best of all, Parallels lets you show as much or as little of the Windows interface as you like, so your friends won’t even know you’re running Windows, thus preserving your Mac Street Cred.

Choice is good. Not having to choose is even better.
Mac OS or Windows? Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac lets you seamlessly run Windows and Mac OS X side-by-side, drag-and-drop your files between operating systems, and run Windows software on your Apple computer without rebooting.

* Run thousands of Windows programs faster on your Mac
* Enhanced! Install Windows XP, Vista or 7 in 3 easy steps
* Enhanced! Optimized for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
* New! Full support for Aero, including Flip 3D in Windows Vista and 7 & OpenGL 2.1
* New! OpenGL 2.1 support for Linux guest Operating Systems
* Enhanced! Parallels Compressor automatically reclaims hard disk space
* Enhanced! Intel VT-x2 virtualization technology drives maximum performance
* Enhanced! Unmatched virtual machine performance

(Oh, and be sure to enter ALL our “12 Days AFTER Christmas” Giveaways!)
Please note: Comments may take a while to show up, please do not double-post. Thanks!

  2. I like Windows for only two things; as a Windows admin I need it to run Sharepoint and Windows admin stuff, such as DFS. Also Visio is a must at my company so I need Windows to run Visio. Other than that I run my MAC and love it.

  16. Windows is incredibly useful based on the number of applications available; my wife, an artist for a game studio, uses Windows at her work constantly, and the wide array available is breathtaking, especially compared to what’s available on the Mac.

Windows also has a great range of development tools available, including Visual Studio – the preeminent IDE on any platform.

  36. Something POSITIVE about Windows.

(Am I taking the directions too literally?)

But seriously, Windows is great at running specialized programs that were written in some distant academic department to solve an esoteric problem and that will never be updated again, ever, much less ported to the Mac. Without Windows, I couldn’t have finished my dissertation.

  37. Fernando on Tue, 29th Dec 2009 3:02 am

  82. say something POSITIVE about windows? You want us to do WHAT? You will never hear me utter such a thing!

*unless of course it is required to win something, in which case…*

    1. it is the only way to run Flight Simulator X Acceleration

    2. Windows is in effect similar to a government stimulus package- for the computer industry. Take this example: Man buys new PC. A year Passes. Man sees new version of Windows. Microsoft designs it so that it will require a new PC. Man realises that he needs a new computer to run the new version of windows. man goes to computer store and buys a new PC. Computer store buy the 300 different components required to build the new PC – and then charges 3x the amount that it cost to build. A year passes. Man sees new version of windows. etc. etc.

i.e windows + inbuilt obsolescence + unsuspecting man = a lifelong PC industry

In this way windows users continue to keep many computer stores, business, manufacturers etc. etc. (and Microsoft) in operation. – that is until the rest of the windows world wakes up to the con that is Microsoft/Windows.
