HTC EVO vs iPhone4
Filed under: Apple Fanboyism, Awesomeness, Humor, iPhone
I know these types of “iPhone vs. movies” tend to over simplify the pros and cons of both devices to support whichever fanboy camp their makers happen to be in, but since I’m firmly in the Apple camp, I like to think this makes some pretty sweet points. (Warning, these virtual Muppets are dropping F-Bombs like they’re going out of style).

First music video shot entirely on an iPhone 4 tricks us into posting about it
Faithful Macenstein reader (and lead singer of the band The Anix) Brandon Smith writes:
We filmed this entire video using only one iphone 4, literally minutes after taking it out of the box. All we had were tri-pods that we would tape the phone to or anything we could use to keep the phone steady. The song was recorded using Logic 9, on a MacBook Pro i7. As a disclaimer, this was my first attempt at editing/shooting a video, so if it looks like I have no clue what I am doing, you are right.
Well, they would have gotten extra points if they also edited it on their iPhone using iMovie, but still, I think it’s impressive, and it certainly doesn’t scream “this was shot on a cell phone”. So, is it a cheap gimmick to try to get sites to write about their band? Sure. But both the song and the video ain’t half bad, which means they’re both half good, so take a listen.
Problem Solved!

How To: Use FaceTime without WiFi (sort of)
The braniacs over at DeviceKnit Blog have come up with a pretty clever work around for using FaceTime on the road when you’re away from WiFi. The catch? You need to create your OWN WiFi using your iPhone 4, a laptop, and your $15 a month tethering plan. You have all those things, right? Then read on!
Turn on tethering in Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering on your iPhone 4 and connect it via USB. You’ll see a new “iPhone USB” connection option pop up in the Network preference pane in System Preferences:

Go to the Sharing preference pane, and turn on Internet Sharing to share your USB connection over WiFi/AirPort:

Now, connect to the network you just created with your iPhone, and you can FaceTime all you want. Hopefully when there’s a jailbreak for the iPhone 4 the laptop and tethering won’t be needed anymore. Enjoy!
So in effect you are using your iPhone to create a WiFi network which you then connect to… It’s a real “Why didn’t I think of that?” moment, except I know exactly why I didn’t think of it… I have no tethering plan, no one to talk to via FaceTime except that one Apple rep, and I’m not smart enough to think of it. Still, if you are someone who likes to LOOK at the person you’re talking to (hopefully not while driving) give it a try and let us know how it works.
