The Beatles are still on iTunes
When Apple teased that its last special event would be “Just another day. That you’ll never forget.”, we didn’t realize it would be because they wouldn’t LET us forget. Seriously, it’s been a month and counting… Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Mike for reminding us to be annoyed at this. Read More

New iPad case screams “beat me up”
We often hear reports of thugs stealing Apple gear, but USBfever is selling an iPad case so nerdy, I think regular law-abiding citizens may feel compelled to beat you up and take your iPad, just on principal. Behold the FOLIO URBAN Wide Case for iPad Well, if walking around typing with your iPad displayed like that doesn’t get you attacked, certainly wearing that shirt will. Read More
Apple’s evil Game Center plan
When Apple first announced Game Center, my feelings ranged from indifferent to mildly supportive. The idea of having just ONE gaming account to manage vs the 3 or 4 major iOS social scoring systems seemed like a nice idea, although having already set up those 3 or 4 accounts, it never really bothered me. Still, being the good Apple soldier I hopped on the Game Center bandwagon, and all was well with the world. Until last week. That was the day I updated Angry Birds Holiday edition... Read More
David takes on Goliath in iPad publishing biz
Michel Elings and Jochem Wijnands These days the big news seems to be that media moguls the likes of Richard Branson and Rupert Murdoch have decided to make the move from traditional print publications onto the iPad. While this is all well and good, there are a slew of smaller, unknown digital publishers looking to break on to the iPad as well, some with offerings every bit as slick as as the established billionaires. One such app is TRVL Magazine, a free travel app that sports... Read More
Apple owes Steve Jobs 38 years in back salary – but can’t find him?
From the WTF department: Gawker reports that for reasons unknown (and we’re DYING to know them), Apple has turned over the job of delivering an “unpaid debt” of $37.91, owed to Steve Jobs, to the State of California’s Unclaimed Property program. Apparently they can’t locate him on their own? Given Steve Jobs only makes $1 a year from Apple, that adds up to almost a lifetime’s worth of wages for the poor guy! Here’s hoping they track... Hopefully this was made on a PC
… in 1992. Oh well, I can’t say this new super-bizarre Parallels promo video is bad, because I watched the whole thing, but then again, I watched the entire debacle that was The Love Guru. Quite frankly, I’m just glad to see Eminem and Steve Jobs working together again. Read More
North Point Community Church’s iBand puts on iOS Christmas Concert
I don’t know what’s more impressive about this video – the skill, musicianship, and hours upon hours of practice that must have gone into this, or the fact that this church owns so many iPads, iPhones, HD cameras and high end editing equipment. Seriously, my church growing up had a candle. That was it. Maybe I would have stayed in the fold if my church had a bunch of Apple nerds in it… of course, back then they’d have to have been playing Jingle Bells... Read More
Review: QYG-Power with Click Stand for iPhone 4G
I have no idea why, but I am a sucker for external iPhone batteries. Given my agoraphobic, anti-social ways (and my tendency to rarely leave my cave house) you’d think I’d never need one, but perhaps it is my shut-in mentality that causes me to fear being away from a power source for too long. Whatever the reason, my heart or my shoes (Grinch reference anyone?), I love these damn things. And while Mophie’s JuicePack has been the media darling for external batteries,... Read More
