Well, I suppose technically this counts…
“Wife’s iPad. I just wanted to play angry birds.” That is the title of this image snapped from an unsuspecting (but hopefully happy) husband and now expectant father to be. Honestly, I can’t think of a better or more creative way to tell your Apple-nerd of a husband about an impending birth. In fact, The Bride of Macenstein has long since learned the ONLY way to communicate with me is via the chat mechanisms of an iPhone or iPad game. via imgur via @viticci Read More
Games that Don’t Suck: DragonVale
Today’s game that doesn’t suck is DragonVale (free/universal) , a Freemium title from BackFlip Studios. Before I go into why it doesn’t suck, let me just point out that this game actually came DANGEROUSLY close to getting a “Suck” rating, solely for the one fatal flaw that I will go into later in this review. However the awesomeness was ultimately able to beat out the suckage, so If you’re into Sim-like time wasters to help you escape the tedium... Read More
Run, don’t walk, to pick up your $5 Apple shoes!
I’m seriously thinking of moving to China, just to save on the shipping costs of all the awesome Apple-related knockoffs I end up buying. Case in point, check out these awesome $5 Apple logo sneakers they have over there! Of course the only problem with my plan is I would sell my house, uproot my family, and dig all the way there only to find that no one in China has a size 13 foot. Well, at least I could cry on Yao Ming’s giant shoulder. If he were sitting down.... Read More
Lion’s Mail dredges up the past
People have long held the notion that the Mac is geared towards the “creative” mind, although usually they are referring to graphic artists using applications such as Photoshop, Painter, Illustrator and such to help express their creativity. However, with Lion, it is Apple’s OS itself that is forcing us to be creative, or, more specifically, its updated Mail app. Take a look at the screenshot below of an exchange between my wife and I. What you are seeing is... Read More
Windows 8′s new BSoD blames the hardware manufacturers for crashes
When looking to upgrade an operating system, especially one that has been around as long as Windows (and largely unchanged since Windows 98), it’s always a good idea to take a look at the features your customers use the most and update those to make the idea of upgrading more enticing. And there’s no feature Windows users use more than the Blue Screen of Death. Yes, it's the PC's fault... What I really find most interesting about this new blue screen of... Read More
WTF? Why isn’t Mr. Macintosh in Lion?
While Mac OS X Lion grudgingly beat Windows 7 in a recent laptop Magazine article, I’m pretty sure Lion would have swept it if Apple had thought to finally incorporate Mr. Macintosh into the OS like Steve (allegedly) dreamed. Who’s Mr. Macintosh, you ask? Well, according to an article by Andy Hertzfeld at Folklore.org: “Steve Jobs often came by Texaco Towers after dinner, to see what was new, and we’d usually show him whatever recent progress we made.... Everyone hates Core #6
8 Cores as a metaphor for life We’ve all met people like core #6 before… the one over-achieving douche who feels the need to make the rest of us feel like worthless pieces of crap with his awesomeness. You’ll find him at school, on the field, and in the workplace. And while I currently feel like core #8 – maybe a core #1, TOPS – there was a time when I too was a core #6. Right after high school I took a job at a local microfilming company. My coworkers... Read More
I’m not saying there’s any validity to Apple’s “copying” lawsuits against Samsung… but
Now, I don’t really keep up with non-Apple hardware all that religiously, so on a recent back-to-school Staples trip I was kind of disgusted at how closely the Samsung laptops now resemble Apple’s MacBooks, with the aluminum chasis, black keyboard, thick black bezel around the screen, and the Samsung logo placed precisely where the words MacBook Pro go on the Apple laptops. In fact, if it weren’t for Samsung being so greedy they take the Intel subsidies and... Read More
Apple’s worst icons
Apple has built a well deserved reputation for impeccable design in both its hardware and operating systems, but even the best designers can get lazy. Here’s a quick tribute to some of Apple’s worst icon blunders of the past couple years. (And please let me know if I missed any in the comments). Sharing. Nothing says “sharing” like a… um… say, what is that? A “man crossing the road” sign? I can’t tell. It’s too small... Read More
