Macenstein’s Ultimate DragonVale Breeding Guide

So it appears more than a few of you are looking for tips on breeding various Dragons in DragonVale
(Free/Universal). If you’re not familiar with the game, you can read our review here, but suffice it to say it’s one of those “time burglars” where you raise and cross-breed various dragon-types to create the ultimate Magical Dragon zoo. Ultimately pointless, yet addicting. Unfortunately, some dragons can be hard to get, and though you may TRY to breed a combinations that looks like they should get you a hard-to-get Rainbow or Moon Dragon or such, sometimes it just doesn’t happen. So we decided to put out a list of what we have found to work for each Dragon Type. I currently have a couple of every dragon (my Game Center ID is “Dr Macenstein” if you’d like to check out my dragons) and while many of them can be gotten with different combos, I will tell you only what breeding combinations actually DID work for me. I will warn you that occasionally even the right combination may take up 20 times or even more, but I promise you, these combinations WILL work. Eventually. Also note a couple of these dragons are “seasonal”, and may not be available at the moment no matter what dragons you breed. Finally, I suggest for most hybrids you purchase the Breeding Island (located under “ISLANDS” in the market) as it can increase your odds when attempting to breed a particularly hard to get hybrid. That being said I think I have also bred most of these with the regular breeding cave as well. ALSO, please note: For pretty much every dragon I have found that the order does NOT matter, despite what people say. For instance I got a Plasma with Lightning and Seaweed, and my wife got it with Seaweed and Lightning. So feel free to mix up the order of my suggestions if you’d like. Again, I’m just telling you what worked for me. First up we have the “Elemental Dragons”. These cannot be bred – you have to shell out coins for these – so start saving. On the plus side, these dragons make up the building blocks for all other dragons, so once you have them, you can get the rest (well, ALMOST all the rest).

Can anyone tell me what happened with my game? One moment i am still collecting my dragons eggs and all of sudden i got restart and start from zero. One thing though, the money that i had collected still remain the same. Gems as well. Just that i had already got so many rare dragons, and just hate to start from the beginning. Helpppp….

I just leveled up to 17 and got all new dragon eggs
and a “solstice” dragon appeared…Does anyone know how to breed it?
yes i do it is mud level 10 and blazing level 10 got first try 23.5 hours
Which means 23:30 minutes
I got it with earth and blazing 4th try epic breeding sanctuary and it took 19 hrs

Before I purchased the gifting tree (100 gems) I was able to gift 3 gems a day. Now with the tree I can gift 6 a day. The quantity may go up as your level gets higher but I am not sure. I am currently at level 20. Good Luck. Add me at my Gamecenter ID usctrojan12 a we can trade gems.
Did you know you can breed elemental dragons(except plant and metal dragons) not by breeding with the same dragon?
You can get fire or cold dragon by breeding Blue Fire/Frostfire.
You can get water or lightning dragon be breeding Current/Plasma
You can get air or earth dragon by breeding Sandstorm/Dodo

Pretty safe bet that breeding two of anything will get you a 3rd of that dragons. So I say MOON.

Am fairly new at this game made the mistake to purchase the boosts I had almost all of them then noticed the negative so I sold them lol now am down on coins lol oh well maybe this gifting gems will help me out so am open for new friends and suggestions in how to make more coins so I can create more dragons

When I was trying to breed the FrostFire dragon I Got a 48 hour time and I got the sun dragon SWEET!!!!!
Um I could use some gems to get the Rainbow dragon because it’s so hard to breed the only rare dragons I breed was the Sun the Solstice and the Pearl that’s it.Here are the dragons I have: Plant,Flower,Moss,Tree,Earth,Quake,Mud,Fire,Lava,Scorch,Blazing,Cold,Ice,Lichen,Lightning,Firefly,Crystal,Magnetic,Water,Seaweed,Fog,Swamp,Air,Chrome,Willow,Snow,Metal,Mine,Quicksilver,Brass,BlueFire,Forge,Mountain,Steel,Poison,Cactus,Iron,Storm,Sonic,Pearl,Sun,Solstice that’s all the dragons I have! okay I finally got a dragon following your steps, received a Solstice dragon, but i still can’t get a a Rainbow or any other rare dragon. I must of tried every combination that you’ve shown but no luck, any suggestions?
The Combo’s I list are ones that WILL work eventually. There may be others, but as far as them working, you may need to do it 1, or 200 times, but you’ll get one.

Hey, thank you for responding! Also, if I use the Fountain of Youth, does that increase the chance of rarer dragons? I’ve read many stories that say by using the fountain they suddenly got more of the rarer dragons. I want to know if these are true or not.
I don’t think that’s true. It might be though. I don’t have it, but my brother does. I think it just makes your dragons look younger. They have to be level 10 to go in it. If you upgrade your breeding island to an epic breeding sanctuary that helps get more of the rarer dragons.

I haven’t yet, but have you tried CRYSTAL AND BLUE FIRE / BLAZING AND SWAMP / LEAP YEAR AND RAINBOW / CRYSTAL AND LICHEN yet? I think if you do one of those enough times in the epic breeding sanctuary you will get one eventually…
Alright, this isnt about breeding, but I didn’t know how to ask otherwise. When you receive a gem, it shows the name of the person who sent it, of course. For me, sometimes it doesn’t show the name. Instead, a long series of numbers and letters show up. Ex: “09026-hjh908-gu89kl-hins638-0000hj has sent you a gem!” Is there a way to fix this?
Idk! That’s weird! Have you updated it recently? Maybe that’s the problem. If you put it in comments in the app store at the dragonvale app page I think someone will fix it for you. I did that with a different app and it got fixed. Someone from customer service or something like that I think… They emailed me about it.
