Rumor: New Apple Instant messaging app “Conversation”? [UPDATED]

Here’s a baffling quote from Jim Cramer, from TheStreet.com and Mad Money fame:

“Cramer also said that a new Mac product, Conversation, will bring Apple to the forefront of instant messaging. He said the product will be similar to the iPod in its impact. “The analysts don’t see it because the analysts don’t use it,” he said. “I think this is a gigantic product.”

Hmm… How would he know about it? Why would he be allowed to talk about it? Why wouldn’t Apple just call it “iChat”? What can Conversation do that iChat can’t do? All these questions and more must be answered by you in the comments.

[EDIT: Arn from Mac Rumors has let us know TheStreet article apparently took Cramer's quote out of context. Apparently Cramer was merely talking about iChat AV. Original show can be found here, if anyone cares.]

  8. Its going to be video conferencing via iPhones. They will introduce mobile video conferencing in the palm of your hand when they roll out 3G handsets. The iPhone will automatically transition from 3G to wi-fi if it finds an open network available. Think about the possibilities. Face to face convos whenever you want and the ability to immediately share something with someone at the touch of a button. This is my guess.

  10. He’s talking about the next gen iPhone with built-in video iChat. Everyone knows about that; they read about it here. ;)

  13. What about the IRC client for OS X already called Conversation (http://homepage.mac.com/philrobin/conversation/)? Maybe a hostile take-over? Apple must be trying to get into the IRC market, as it is the next generation of messaging. ;)

  15. I enjoy speculating…Yes, I think we will see video conferencing on the iPhone in next model. That would be cool. You would also have the ability to create a short video with the phone and send it to someone else’s iphone. How about speaking a text message and it types it out through voice recognition.

While we are at it…I would like to send someone my location on my map and see where they are at too.

Have the iphone speak anything on the page to you. This would help a lot of drivers.

  17. @ Mike, dude my Sony Ericsson K850i can already do that :( It also has a 5 Megapixel camera with xenon flash that takes reliably decent shots. I will switch to the iPhone when they can eliminate my need to have a digital camera on me at all times. I have a 4 year old, and got sick of saying to myself “I wish I had a camera.” The Nokia N95 8gb is nice too. I really want an iPhone, but 2MP camera just isn’t doing it for me.

Tell me what you're thinking...
