Well they changed it – 13 days

Well, if you took the over, you won.

13 days after launching the new iMacs, Apple has changed the ultra-slim computer’s potentially UN-”PC” (get it?) tagline, “You can’t be too thin. Or too powerful” to “The all new, all-in-one iMac.”

Being the first site to point out the potential advertising pitfall (as well as being raging egomaniacs), we’d love to take credit for Apple having changed their campaign, however, it appears a more likely source is an angry letter writing campaign from the Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness and the subsequent article on Yahoo that likely got Apple’s attention.

Above: The new iMac’s old tagline…

Above: …And the new one.

Thanks to faithful Macenstien reader Ryan Smith for the heads up.

  6. umm…i think my comment was truncated cos i put the less than symbol in…i meant to say that i knew they wouldn’t have changed it in less than 24 hrs, and rather than being potentially un-pc, isn’t it rather potentially annorexia-supporting?

  10. Confirmation that most computer users are, 1) overweight and 2) sensitive about it.

    Absurd.

  22. Duh! The phrase is a play on a Gloria Vanderbilt quote. (You remember Gloria and her jean commercials in the 70’s?? Oh, you just know her as Anderson Cooper’s mom?).
“You can never be too thin or too rich,” was a saying she’s accredited with.

  24. Uh oh! They better go back in time and change that quote. I, for one am unable to form my own opinions, and look to advertisements and movie quotes to form them for me.

  26. I think it’s funny when “not being an asshole” gets turned into “political correctness”. Seriously, that ad was fucking bullshit.

  28. You’re so sensitive! You’re like a flower, blowing in the wind, man! Chriso get a life, grow some skin.

  30. Although I agree to the most part people are too sensitive, about everything, I am also shocked that Apple has NO ONE on their staff who said to them this is not politically correct.
That being said, their new slogan sucks.
