Apple releases secuirty update 2007-09 (again)

Have you ever experienced déjà vu? You know, the feeling that somehow, somewhere, you’ve downloaded the same security update twice? Well, you’ll be happy to know, it’s not just you.

Just four days after Apple released Security Update 2007-09 version 1.0, they today released it again, in the form of Security Update 2007-09 version 1.1
(available via Software Update).

New to this update is… nothing. At least on the surface, that is. Apple claims it addresses:

“Core Foundation / CUPS / Flash Player Plug-in / Launch Services / perl / python / Quick Look / ruby / Safari / Samba / Shockwave Plug-in /Spin Tracer”

Which is the exact same list for version 1.0. So what’s going on here? Is Apple trying to cash in on the Box Office gold that was “Security Update 2007-09 version 1.0” by rushing out a derivative sequel?

[UPDATE:] Apparently the v1.1 update addresses Safari bug introduced in the v1.0 update which caused Safari to crash unexpectedly.

  2. Maybe they just want to remind us how serious they take security.

  4. Maybe they figured out why right after installing version 1 of this security update my MacBook’s airport went to hell.
Here’s hoping it will be fixed. (fingers crossed.)

  6. Apparently 2007-009 introduced a bug in Safari.

    From Apple’s website:

    Security Update 2007-009 v1.1

Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 addresses an issue introduced in Security Update 2007-009 that may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit when browsing to certain websites.

There is no change to the security content provided in Security Update 2007-009. The security content of Security Update 2007-009 and Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 is available here

Security Update 2007-009 v1.1 will install over Security Update 2007-009, and its installation is recommended to resolve the Safari issue.

Systems that have not yet installed Security Update 2007-009 only need to install Security Update 2007-009 v1.1.

  8. I too noticed this.

I main problem, is after that keyboard fix update, my keyboard and mouse locked up on my macbook.

First time ever happening, and it happends after the patch to fix it :\.

I am unhappy, these things need to be tested more before release.

Apple also bricked most leopard server with their new server patch.
