Microsoft tells us why PCs are better than Macs

Microsoft has launched a new page comparing PCs to Macs, and guess who comes out on top?
Let’s see if you can find six misleading statements hidden in Microsoft’s arguments below: (thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Billy for the tip!)

Macs can take time to learn.
The computer that’s easiest to use is typically the one you already know how to use. While some may say Macs are easy, the reality is that they can come with a learning curve. PCs running Windows 7 look and work more like the computers you’re familiar with, so you can get up and running quickly.

Macs might spoil your fun.
There are some things you simply can’t do out of the box with a Mac like watch, pause, rewind, and record TV like a DVR.
It’s showtime.
You can’t get a Mac that ships with a Blu-ray player, TV tuner, Memory Stick reader, or built-in 3G wireless. You can with PCs running Windows 7.

Macs don’t work as well at work or at school.
If most of the computers in your office or school run Windows you may find it harder to get things done with a Mac.

Macs don’t like to share.
At least half the fun of having a computer is sharing the stuff that matters to you with other people. This is harder to do on a Mac.

Macs might not like your PC stuff.
Plain and simple, if you’re a PC user, lots of your favorite stuff just might not work on a Mac. With PCs outselling Macs 10 to 1, the reality is that most computer software is developed to run on PCs.

Macs don’t let you choose.
PCs give you a lot more choice and capabilities for your money. You can get the PC you want, in the size and color you want, with the features you want. You just don’t have as many options with a Mac.

OH it’s ON!!! Bill Gates shares his outrageous opinions on the iPad!

Hold on to your hats folks, Bill Gates has broken his silence on the iPad and what he has to say is going to BLOW… YOUR… MIND. I don’t want to ruin it for you, but it rhymes with “No comment”.

WORST… INTERVIEW… EVER.

So why is it Bill Gates can’t actually give his opinion on anything? If I were Bill Gates I’d be out there giving my opinion on everything from Dancing with the Stars to the size of Heidi Montag’s new boobs, and I’d sure as hell have an opinion about a competitor’s tech gadget that has dominated the news for nearly 3 months. Now that he’s semi retired and doesn’t have to tow the company line, this is Bill’s big chance to develop a personality, and he’s blowing it. Although I suppose once you’ve publicly predicted everything from OS X to the iPod to the iPhone will fail, you eventually learn to just keep those sound bites to yourself.

And actually now that I think about it, if I were Bill Gates odds are I’d be too busy swimming around in my Scrooge McDuck-style money bin to do interviews anyhow. (Although I probably would still have an opinion on Heidi’s boobs).

Steve Ballmer admits his signature is worthless

I must admit that Steve Ballmer is one smart fella. Approximately 2 seconds after signing this kid’s MacBook he realizes that he’s ruined it, and the poor guy needs a new one.

No need for the tinfoil shield guys, you aren’t getting laid

I never really understood the whole “destroy tech on YouTube” thing, I guess I’m sort of missing the “attention whore” gene, but if I WERE to destroy a gadget on YouTube at the tail end of 2009, I don’t think I would use a product from 2007 to prove I was cool. Yet, that’s just what Jory Caro and the folks over at “Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?” did when they recently microwaved a 1st generation iPhone. Wow.

There’s so much Apple bashing here that you have to wonder if they even sincerely feel that way or are simply trolling for flame hits. I mean, I’m an Apple fanboy and all, but I have an xBox and a Microsoft mouse I don’t hate. (Hmm… I sort of sound like someone accused of being racist that says they have a black friend.*) What’s next for the “Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?” gang? They’re going to nuke a 1997 issue of Macworld Magazine.

Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Doug for the tip!

One of the good things about having over 100,000 apps available on the iPhone is it more or less allows you to spell anything.

Microsoft Pitch-man Seinfeld upgrades to an iMac

Faithful Macenstein reader William writes:

Curb Your Enthusiasm had its “Seinfeld reunion” episode on last night. To help bring it to fruition, the production crew faithfully reconstructed the original sets, modernizing them with some updates, which they highlighted in the fall promo: a new refrigerator, an HDTV and granite counter-tops.

One update they failed to highlight nevertheless made its appearance in several shots. Seinfeld’s commercials for Microsoft notwithstanding, that ain’t no Dell on his desktop.”

Family Guy takes a Jab at Windows 7, Mac OS X

Family Guy took a couple of geeky jabs at both Microsoft and Apple’s OS’s recently. One unforseen benefit for Apple in having under 10% of the computer market is that probably only about 10% of the Family Guy audience was familiar enough with OS X to even knew it was an Apple Jab, where EVERYONE understands Microsoft bashing. I also noticed that just like the two different brand philosophies, the Apple joke was more subtle, well designed, and “just worked”, while the Microsoft jab was obvious, clunky, and not all that well put together.
Enjoy.

Man, I was JUST about to break down and go to the Microsoft store when luckily faithful Macenstein reader Chuck sent us this video of a COMPLETELY SPONTANEOUS AND UNSTAGED employee dance session. As with all Microsoft Store videos, the best part is watching the reactions (or complete lack thereof) of the hapless customers, who I assume were just there to get out of the rain or something.

This looks scary as hell

I have yet to see the film “Paranormal Activity”, but if it’s half as scary as this trailer for “PC Normal Activity”, well, then… well it won’t be all that scary, actually. (Although my inner fanboy did cringe a couple times). Enjoy!

A bit of back story on the origin of PC Normal Activity is provided by its creator, Peter Yan .

“I don’t understand why PC users hate Macs and Mac users so much. Those quotes were picked from just some of many hatred comments from one of my videos.”

Well Peter, I think I know why most PC users hate Mac users. It basically comes down to the fact that most people do not like to see other people happy – for any reason. I know I sure don’t.

I’ve always felt that Mac users, in general, are happy to own a Mac and enjoy using it, where most PC users seem to look at their computers more like an appliance – something they use when they have to to complete a given task, but certainly nothing to get excited over. PC users don’t get that emotional attachment to their computers – or to their family, friends, and pets for that matter.

I mean, if I had a nickle for every kitten I’ve seen a PC user step on…
