Apple – The most romantic OS on the planet

Everyone knows the French are the most romantic people on the planet. After all, they have a 1063 ft erection in the middle of their capital (Ba dum bum!). Well, faithful Macenstein reader Jordan sent us a link to a love song by French singing sensation Calogero which not only makes heavy use of Mac imagery in the video, but the song itself is called “Pomme C”, or “Apple C”, which to all you johnny come latelys is what they Command Key used to be called on old Macs (or for extra Mac geek street cred, you could call it the “open-Apple key”).

Actually, I can’t really guarantee Calogero is an actual “singing sensation” – I couldn’t get a straight answer as to what his English-singing counterpart might be, but his record company seems to have thrown a decent chunk of change into the production of his video, so I’ll assume he’s more popular than Jerry Lewis. Plus anyone who remembers the Apple Key is likely a long time Mac users, so he deserves the benefit of the doubt. Be sure to look for the shout out to QuickTime. (English translation of the lyrics below, courtesy of Jordan).

Pomme C (Apple C) by Calogero
I have her picture.
I have her email.
Her heart at the tip of the keyboard.

I have her face.
And her envy.
Without ever having touched it.
Must I save it?
Or just abandon it?

Apple, it’s a man and a woman.
And it’s all a program.
An artificial sky.
Apple, who lights me up and leaves me.
We love too quickly.
Our lives are virtual.

She writes me.
But my screen formats the feelings.

But I imagine that a machine
Could only pretend.
My goddess.
She is not really real.
A little love, copied and pasted
A little love, apple c.
A little love downloaded.
A little love to save, to save.
But love is not virtual.
Or should I just abandon it?

Hopeless Romantic

The Bride of Macenstein is no stranger to romance. Early on, while dating, I got her a .357 Magnum handgun for her birthday. I figured with a present like that, she could get herself all the jewelry she wanted. Well, flash forward some 15 or so years to Mother’s Day 2010, and the romance is as alive as ever. Behold my Mother’s Day gift to the Bride of Macenstein!

That’s right, it’s a collage of all her Flight Control HD scores, something ranked just above Jewelry and sightly below chocolate on most women’s wish lists.

You may recall that for quite some time The Bride of Macenstein had the number one score on a number of Flight Control HD levels, mostly because she was one of the first people to play the game, but also because she tends to kick ass. In fact, she is still in the top 5 on many levels, and like any true geek, is proud of the accomplishments which monopolized every spare waking hour of her life since we got the iPad.

Yes, now her Flight Control scores are some of the first things people see when entering our house, which should give you a pretty good idea of how we decorate.

And to all those women who had to put on a fake smile and graciously accept flowers, jewelry, and cars this Mother’s Day, I say to you, “Sorry.” Hopefully your next husband will love you as much as I love my wife.

Not exactly what Apple intended the iPad to be used for – WARNING! NSFW

I don’t know who Ryan Kelly is, but apparently she’s French, hot, naked, and owns an iPad. This clip is EXTREMELY not safe for work, and I hesitated (briefly) in posting it, but I just got back from the MOMA in New York where there was some super lame video installation with real, live naked people, and let me tell you, this is every bit as artistic as that was – it just doesn’t have a bunch of security guards standing around making sure you don’t tough the exhibits (I learned THAT the hard way…). But hey, art or not, it’s a naked chick with an iPad, so I more or less had to publish it. You’ve been warned, proceed at your own risk. Read more

Applegirl002 sings her way into our hearts

Meet Applegirl002, or as I like to call her, “The Future Bride of Macenstein”. Sure, I’m already happily married, but let’s face it, it’s only a matter of time before she leaves me, and any woman with 3 iPhones who can sing like Beyonce is someone I can really see spending the rest of my life with.

Maybe I’m blinded by love, but I think she has a really nice voice, and I can easily see her as the opening act for the new Journey band, filling in for Beyonce in her band when she decides to go solo (well, even more solo). Applegirl002 also has a Lady Gaga video (via TUAW) and although the video is worth watching because she looks quite a bit hotter with her hair down, I think her Beyonce impression is where her future lies.

If she’s taking requests, I’d like to see “All The Single Ladies” set to iPhones.

Apple Store Wedding looks as uncomfortable as you’d think

As big a fanboy as I am, and as understanding as the Bride of Macenstein is, I don’t think I would ever attempt to get married in an Apple store. It’s sort of like getting married in your mistress’s apartment. Yet that’s what the Li’s did this Sunday (Valentine’s Day). Yes, there’s nothing like committing to spend the rest of your life with someone as strangers shop disinterestedly for iPod cases nearby. It’s GOT to be what Mrs. Li drew pictures of as a girl.

For those of you keeping track at home, getting married in a publicity-stunt-like manner ON Valentine’s Day is TWO strikes. Oh, and getting married by a guy dressed as Steve Jobs? That’s like 10 more strikes.

I give this marriage 3 years.

I’d like to give a big thank you to all of you who took the time to enter our “Where in the World is Steve Jobs?” contest! I think if anything this contest proves that just because you own a Mac, doesn’t mean you’re artistic.

I kid! I’m sure your mothers all think you are very creative!

So without further ado, here are the winners, and a bunch of honorable mentions. If you don’t see your entry here, don’t feel bad. It just means it really sucked. Read more

Attention Whores

Above: Lee and Mandy profess their love in front of 200 confused, roped-off strangers, just like Mandy pictured as a young girl.

When considering a marriage proposal, far more important than the choice of person is the location. Yes, it’s not important how long you’ve known someone, what really matters is that when it comes time to pop the question, you have as many complete strangers there to witness the event as possible. Their uneasy, confused applause – a reaction to the uncomfortably awkward situation you’ve created –is a memory you will want to hold onto, long after you’re divorce is finalized.

It’s a simple concept, and one that Lee Herbet understood completely as he proposed to his girlfriend of 6 weeks at the grand opening of the new Apple store at the Westfield Galleria in Roseville California. Of course, when one considers that Lee must have decided to propose at least a week in advance in order to pick out a ring and such, that means at best the two knew each other five whole weeks before deciding to take the plunge.

I’ve spent longer researching a TV than that…

Of course, it’s not the quantity of minutes you’ve known your fiancé, it’s the quality of that time. And since the two flew in all the way from Australia, that means they’ve spent almost as much quality time together on a plane, as not.

OK, enough. I know I am being a cynical bastard. It should be noted that Read more

A guy who is “turned on” by thumbs

Get it? Cause that’s a Power Button symbol this genius has had permanently embossed on his right thumb via what looks to be a fairly painful process known as skin removal.

Now, I have my share of regrettable tattoos, but skin removal seems a little out there even for me. Although I must say the thought of being able to give everyone the finger while pretending to be promoting the benefits of FireWire DOES sound rather appealing…
