Stuff White People Like #40: Apple Computers

I wish I could argue with this, but I can’t. It’s quite brilliant. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader TheWarpedOne for the link.

“Plain and simple, white people don’t just like Apple, they love and need Apple to operate… Apple products tell the world you are creative and unique. They are an exclusive product line only used by every white college student, designer, writer, English teacher, and hipster on the planet.

It is also important that white people are reminded of their creativity, and remember you need a Mac to creatively check email, creatively check websites, and creatively watch DVDs on planes.”

If this is humor, I don’t get it. Is that idiot trying to say that black people don’t care about using the best products? Or is he saying that Apple should close up shop in Japan because Asians don’t want you to think they are creative? This blog entry is not worthy of this site.

    I thought it was funny.

I don’t get the point of this article either. not that i think you were intending to offend, but i dont see any positive reasons for posting it. Surely the risk of offending your readers isnt something you want. But incase you dont understand why, it is because your saying the people that use it are of a certain high calibre. Then you point out that it’s white people. I dont see any reason why you would post such an item. The colour of our skin has nothing to do with the technology that were interested in. To Lisa I dont think its funny because race has absolutely nothing to do with Technology, Apple or this website. When the issue of race is brought up it brings up history. Especially when race is used to bring division. People don’t come here to check out stuff like this. its not why we’ve bookmarked your page. its cause we love to get the latest apple news. Not saying we can’t ever go off topic, but if theres ever a topic to try an stay away from, its race. Keep the apple related news coming! (apologies for typos, too tired to read over) …

It’s a joke. Tongue in cheek humor, playing on white stereotypes. If you look at the whole thing then you get it in context. Lighten up. Besides, if you can’t laugh at yourself, you can’t laugh at other people.

This is a really great and funny site. I found it a week ago. Read it. And yes, I’m white.

  5. Woosh! says:

Reading the comments over there, it seems some people have spectacularly missed the point of that blog. (As have a few people here, which makes it all the more hilarious.)

Now excuse me, I’m off to starbucks with my appletv and airport extreme. Just because.

  6. Els Rhijnsburger says:

I don’t see why it’s funny. It’s racist. Please remove it from your website. It is Apple-unworthy.

  7. Seems I am more like Lisa than A Fella, I actually thought it was amusing it made me crack a smile while reading it. Not that it matters but I am white.

Thing is, even as a joke I think there is a nugget of truth in the original article.

  8. Let’s break it down. It’s racist, plain and simple. I’m surprised that site exists, and I’m surprised Macenstein chose to promote it.

    FAILED.

  9. Rob says:

It’s racial humor, but not racist. There’s a difference, and that site was pretty funny.

  10. Laura says:

    oh you guys.
it’s just poking fun at upper-middle class American urbanites (who are mostly white) and probably was written by an upper-middle class urbanite.
    Also a very funny site.

Very funny stuff… reminded me of a site I found a few years ago: http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/

  12. Hindsight says:

Oversensitivity to racism is so 90’s- get over it. Is the site offensive? Indeed it is a little offensive. Do I care? No, not in the least bit. Do I care if this site linked to it? No, not at all. It’s relevant. The site isn’t bashing on other races or anything, anyway. Who cares? Go protest actual human rights violations if [you people] are so willing to fight the good fight.

  13. DJCarbon43 says:

I happen to be white, and since it seems (if anything) to poke fun at whiteys, I would have the most right to be offended…but I’m not.

It IS racial humor. Can there be abuse (and racism) when racial humor is used? Absolutely! Is that the case here? I don’t think so.

Some folks may disagree, and thats okay, we are all entitled to our own opinions.

A friend of mine (who happens to be black) observed that we cannot truly be free from racism until we can gently poke fun at racial stereotypes (some of which are hilarious 🙂 without anyone getting offended. Will we as a world ever get there? I dunno.

I’m white. I like Apple computers. They make me feel like a creative, innovative, individual. Me being white and paying excess amounts of money for a product so I can be good about myself, then someone writing an article about it, isn’t racist. It’s a fact of life. Asians, blacks, and Jews are likely to get a similar satisfaction – but the website is about white people, and the stuff they like.

Check this knockoff out. So funny!
