OS X 10.4.3 due this weekend

Posted by Lab Rat

Macenstein’s sources have told us to expect the release of OS X 10.4.3 sometime this weekend, or Monday at the latest. This update is a monster, weighing in close to 100MB, and is expected to squash just about all known bugs that 10.4.2 missed (and some that it caused). Key updates to the Core Image, OpenGL and CoreGraphics are expected, largely in support of new features found in Front Row, Aperture, and Photo Booth. Numerous smaller tweaks to just about everything ranging from iChat to Safari are rumored to be included as well, but no major new functionality is expected.

hmm… i’m running 10.4.2 and rarely experence any buggy behavior.

  2. OsakanOne says:

I get a lot of buggy behavior recently. Some programs have refused to minimize, fonts haven’t rendered properly, ALT & TAB refused to work, text-boxes refused to take content, Terminal wouldn’t launch (along with a host of other apps).

The biggest nusance was that 10.4.3 refused to listen to my graphics tablet after around 30 minutes.

All could be fixed with a simple reboot, though.

(2nd generation PowerBook, 256mb, 60GB, Airport Extreme, Bluetooth)

I hope this update will fix the smoke coming out of the side of my PowerBook.

Sometimes my mouse and keyboard just stop working. I have to unplug from USB and wait for a few minutes before plugging back in. Hopefully this will solve that annoying problem.

I’ve had a few troubles with the 10.4.2–mainly just weird lockups…hopefully this will fix quite a bit.

    VERY GOOD

I had the problem but it also included any usb devices I plugged in such as my ipod and my hp printer. I fixed the issue by deleting my preference files and then rebooting. Issue resolved.

10.4.2 is the most stable version of OS X I’ve ever used. I did a clean install with 10.4.0, then updated to 10.4.2 the day after it came out. I haven’t restarted since and during that time I’ve been using my computer at least 8 hours a day, and rendering video + F@H at night while I’m asleep.

    23:30 up 104 days, 4:44, 14 users, load averages: 0.18 0.38 0.49

No pinwheels, no kb/mouse probs, it just works.

yea, i don’t have a problem, and i have front row installed on my ibook (G3 series too)… so the comment about it messing up your computer is false, i see no errors, nor have any errors from 10.4.2

  12. D says:

10.4 changed the firmware in the memory controller on at the very least the 1.25GHz PowerBooks to make them much more picky about memory. My wife had 512MB in her powerbook that worked flawlessly under 10.3 but caused the computer to panic and freeze from time to time under 10.4. Replacing it with the most expensive memory they had (which was free since it was under a lifetime warranty) fixed this problem. If you’ve installed cheap memory (particularly in a powerbook) this may well be the cause of your problem. The only way we isolated it was by running TechTool for 12 hours straight.

I don’t have any problems, 10.4.2 works just fine. I hope they include Frontrow and photo booth in this new update! I am a new mac user (6 weeks) so maybe I don’t know what is normal behavior =)

I don’t think OS updates ever change the firmware of a machine.
those are usually stand alone updates specific to a machine.

  15. MacJunkie82 says:

    @ Lasse…

As great as that would be, it won’t happen. This is a maintenance update.

  16. Hey, great job guys!
10.4.3 released today, just like you said.

  18. OsakanOne says:

    Actually…
    10.4.3 [final] broke Front Row…

I think Apple saw this coming.
Looks like the smart sods read the news and follow the tech, eh?

Ah well. iLife 06 it is.

  19. Venky says:

Working with Quark XPress 6.5 Mouse Spinning/busy signal problem randomly, returns control to use after 3,4 minutes and needs a force quit of the application otherwise.
