About Mac Chick of the Month

We launched the Mac Chick of the Month feature in October of 2006 and it has quickly become one of the Mac Community’s most anticipated events. Each month we showcase a different Mac-loving female and her Apple gear. The three main requirements for submitting are that you 1) are female, 2) are 18 years of age or older, and 3) really ARE a Mac Chick (meaning you own and use Apple gear. iPods and iPhones are welcome, but a Mac of some sort is mandatory). Months are doled out on a first-come, first-serve basis, so get your entry in ASAP!

Submissions

Valid submissions include both a photo and biography portion.

• BIO Info

When submitting your entry for Mac Chick of the Month, we ask you include a brief 1 to 3 paragraph biography blurb about yourself, what you are up to, and about your love of Apple gear. Additionally, please include any links to web sites or projects you would like to promote, and include the answers to as many of the following biography questions as you feel comfortable with:

• Name (can be just first name or nickname)
• Age
• Location (can be vague)
• Occupation
• First Apple product you bought
• Favorite Apple Gear
• Favorite non-Apple Gear
• Favorite TV Shows
• Favorite Movies
• Favorite Bands
• Hobbies
• Pets
• Web site(s)

It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with previous Mac Chick of the Month features to get an idea of the type of photos and information we’re looking for. The Mac chick of the Month archive can be found here:
https://macenstein.com/archives/category/mac-chick-of-the-month/

Again, please only give as much personal info as you are comfortable with. If you are not currently a “public” person, you WILL be. So do not give your full name or town unless you feel that info is already out there, and/or don’t care.

• Photos

Additionally, we are looking for a minimum of 7 or 8 good, high-resolution shots of you with your Apple gear to feature in the spread, but you can never send in too many photos! You may also send in some shots of you without your Apple gear..ie. shots you feel give a good sense of your personality and we may mix some of those into the feature as well, but the photos of you and your Mac are the important ones. We ask that you send the Mac shots at as high a resolution as possible (at least 1600 pixels by 1200), as we like to put out a desktop wallpaper each month for downloading.

What we are looking for sexy, well lit shots of you with your Apple gear, similar in style to what you would find in the pages of Maxim or FHM Magazine, although perhaps a little more of a “girl-next-door” feeling to them. Shots of you relaxing and using your gear in real settings, both indoor and out, are preferable to a studio shot on a bed or some such scenario. A minimum of 7 or 8 shots is required, but you can never send too many. We love photos! Content-wise, implied nudity is fine, but this is a PG-13 site, so please leave something to the imagination.

All submissions are reviewed by our esteemed panel of judges, and we reserve the right to turn down any submission without explanation. However, in general, the main reason for being turned down for MCotM is the poor quality of the photos being submitted. We often receive dark, grainy, and/or low resolution shots, and we will not run these. We suggest you use a good-quality digital camera with appropriate lighting (daylight is often best). Setting up a $300 digital still camera on your dresser and taking a picture with pretty much only the flash as illumination will not give you very flattering results. If you really don’t know what you are doing, we suggest you try outdoor shots, or interior shots with plenty of natural light. We highly recommend you enlist the help of a photography-knowledgeable friend or ideally a professional photographer. We request that shots do not have watermarks or other information on them if possible. If a photographer insists on applying a watermark of some sort, we ask that it be tasteful and not distract from the picture. We will definitely provide photo credit for each shot.

Thank you for considering the MCotM feature! We look forward to receiving your entry!

You can send photos or links to us here at plotsuggestion@macenstein.com , and please feel free to write us with any questions before sending in your entry.

Thanks, and good luck!

======

Pseudo legal mumbo jumbo

By sending us photos of you and your gear you are certifying that you are 18 years of age or older, and you warrant that the photos you send in are free and clear of any restrictions, that you have obtained any and all necessary releases from the photographer, and that you carry the responsibility if you have not. You further grant us the right to publish those photos on our web site and use them to promote Macenstein and the Mac Chick of the Month feature (and any subsequent re-namings of said feature) on our web site and iPhone application. You are also certifying that you own or have the rights to use the photographs (ie, if a photographer took the shots for you, be sure you have the rights to use them and allow us to use them).

Privacy

We will only publish biographical info of your choosing. For instance, if you wish to be known only as “Jane” from California, and not “23 year-old Jane Smith of Fresno California”, that’s fine by us. If you are not using the feature to promote your web site or other public projects, this is likely a good idea. Additionally, our Mac Chick articles often get picked up by other sites across the internet, and we have no control over the contents or comments on their sites (although they are widely favorable!).
