Building a better iTunes – A visual iPhone interface

Given how the iPhone has become the new face of Apple, even more so than the iPod, it is frustrating that Apple has completely failed at integrating a decent iPhone management tool into iTunes. I probably have 3 times as many apps downloaded as I can fit on my iPhone at this point, and keeping track of them, let alone positioning them where I want them across my iPhone’s nine screens is way more time consuming than it needs to be.

Well, take a look at the below concept video. We here at the lab have been talking about making a similar video, but we’ve just been too lazy, so we’re glad someone else got around to it.

Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Phil for the tip!

Would Love it, it would also be nice if you could ‘try’/play te Apps on an build in emulator

This is freaking awesome. I would love to be able to manage my app on the iphone like this. I is also another thing that is great to show off to my friends that do not have the iphone that think that it is not worth it to buy.

I’ve been wanting something like this from the very beginning. I’ve given up on organizing my iPhone apps, hoping that Apple would get around to putting a better app management tool into iTunes.

Awesome. There are a few things Apple should release to the iPhone, and this is definitely one of them. iPhone MMS would still be first on my list though.

Wow, simple and elegant. I’ve felt that the app management through iTunes is terrible. I install and delete my apps though my phone. Every time I delete one I have to also delete it from my iTunes or it gets re-installed. (I know it’s probably an incorrect setting on my part.)

I just deleted half the apps on my phone (the ones I haven’t used in 3 or more months) last night because I was tired of flicking through 9 pages. It would’ve been nice to keep those just-in-case apps for when I really needed a graphing calculator, but I wasn’t going to waste my time rearranging them. If the above implementation was in iTunes I could’ve easily moved all those apps to last few pages and keep the essentials up front on the first 4 or 5 pages.

    I agree, this would ROCK!

I’ve been wanting this for quite while now at least itunes letting you know which apps have been synced to a device kind of like a playlist or even a different view options to make sorting and deleting them easier

Very well-thought.. and very apple-like also

and more importantly, very good use of Keynote! I mean it’s been a long time since I’ve seen the effects applied to just-the-right-slide-transitions.

But what’s with the white mouse?!

  10. Isegrim says:

@Jeremy You do not have to delete the apps from iTunes or your iPhone. When your iPhone is connected to iTunes simply open the Programs Tab deselect the sync all programs option and simply choose just the ones that you want to keep on your iPhone.

I would love to see more than 16 apps on a home screen even when that meant to scroll down to reach them. i Do not like to scatter my tools or games over more screens.

  11. Very nice! An additional sort option I’d like to see would be to sort apps by their iTunes store category.
