“The 12 Days AFTER Christmas” Giveaway: Day 43 – A set of Audioengine 5N Bamboo speakers!

This contest is closed. Congrats to faithful Macenstein reader Steve.

On the Forty-Third Day After Christmas, Macenstein gave to you (or, more accurately, gave you a chance to win…) A set of A5N Powered Bookshelf Speakers (in BAMBOO!) !

12_audioengine

AAARRGGHHH! If only I could enter my own contest! Damnit. Well, one of you lucky bastards is about to be taken on an audio trip to AWESOMETOWN!

I actually have a pair of the white Audio Engine A5’s, and I use them daily in my demolition job to knock down houses. These things are scary loud, and amazingly distortion free, even at ear-bleeding levels. And you’re actually getting the cooler, more expensive version of the A5’s, the Eco-friendly, $450 Bamboo model. God, I hate you.

Audioengine 5N (A5N) – All of the simple but useful features and same signature sound of the award-winning A5 wrapped in rock solid and beautifully hand-finished bamboo.

Bamboo is an excellent alternative to hardwoods and the dark bamboo used for the Audioengine A5N cabinets is not a stain, but achieved through a specialized heating process. As the wood is pressure heated, the sugar compounds inside the bamboo are “carbonized” which in turn darkens the bamboo to a rich caramel color. Awesome sound, great looks, eco-friendly, and panda-safe.

Above: That AC outlet is PERFECT for hooking up an AirPort express and blasting tunes from your home computer (via the remote app on your iPhone/iPod touch, of course!)

A5N Eco-friendly features:

Made from renewable and sustainable solid bamboo – no veneers
No stains or paint used – naturally “carbonized” finish sealed with hand-rubbed water-based satin polyurethane
Other green facts and features:

Audioengine products are now 100% lead-free and meet the EU’s RoHS initiative
All speaker cabinet materials use environmentally-friendly binders and resins
Formaldehyde-free adhesives are used in our cabinet assembly
All Audioengine products meet ENERGY STAR requirements in standby
Limited use of plastics in our products
Easy-to-recycle packaging

To enter: Since obviously you will annoy your neighbors (and THEIR neighbors) with the A5’s, we’re wondering, What’s the ONE THING you find most annoying/rude about other people? Winners will be picked randomly 7 days later and notified (kind of like in The Ring, only with less killing… we hope). Open to US readers only. Good luck, and thanks for reading Macenstein! (Oh, and be sure to enter ALL our “12 Days AFTER Christmas” Giveaways!)
Please note: Comments may take a while to show up, please do not double-post. Thanks!

  1. Matthew Smith says:

Bad driving such as running red lights, not using turn signals, cutting off other drivers, etc.

  2. Christopher Engesser says:

When they assume they know more than you about something without having first asked you what you know.

  3. anthy says:

I’m going to go with the opposite of Christopher up there: when they assume that you know about something without actually telling you about it. Like, assuming that you know the intricacies of a system at a job you just started that week, or assuming that you know about an event that they never told you about. I can’t read your mind, guys. Even worse if they get MAD at you for not reading their mind.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

  4. Roy Stone says:

people airing their dirty laundry on facebook or other social networks as if they it were private, but it’s there for all the world to see.

  5. Double U says:

making noises when eating/drinking. Can’t STAND it. The same with heavy breathing and foot wiggling while watching the tv.

  6. GlowingApple says:

People that slam doors. Just because it’s your apartment, doesn’t mean that everyone else in the complex can’t hear it … at 4 am.

  7. Jon says:

I have such little faith in the human race as a whole that I could probably sit here and write about 357 things that annoy the fuck out of me.

But I’ll stick with two and say people changing lanes without using their indicator and people who refuse to set their phones to vibrate in the library. This could also be applied to the movies, but seeing as I’m currently in the library I’ll go with that.

  8. Brad says:

    passive aggressiveness PERIOD.

  9. Noah Singer says:

People who don’t smoke and complain when I do. Really, what’s up with that?

  10. Bobby Spangler says:

Making broad assumptions about a person solely based on their looks…

  11. Jason says:

Crazy driving — Without a doubt. Eek!

  23. Angel V. says:

When they depend too much on the freakin GPS and almost run you off the road making last minute turns.

  24. I abhor the loud bass coming from cars these days. The bass us so powerful it makes me nauseous. How about keeping it in the house with a pair of A5Ns.

  25. Mark S. says:

    Laziness just drives me crazy.

  26. Anonymoose says:

I get quite perturbed about customers who think as long as they make it into the store before our 6pm closing time, they are entitled to spend as much time as they want keeping me from going home.

  27. Dan says:

    Idiotic driving.

  28. JT says:

people who know about 15% of a story or info but act as if they know 100% and are right.

  29. Pete Jennings says:

Women (usually) who have to gesture with their “free” hand while talking on their cell phones. Since one hand is holding the cell phone to their ear and the other hand is gesturing frantically, neither hand is on the steering wheel!!!!

  30. Jonro says:

Those speakers are sweet! Annoying behavior: bad drivers, especially people turning corners with one hand holding a cell phone to the ears as they almost smash into you because they’re not paying attention. Don’t get me started!

  31. Scott Bernard says:

Whatever it is that makes WONDERFUL women date @sshole guys who treat them poorly.

  32. MacMarine says:

    Using a phone while driving.

People who wear their bluetooth headset all the time.

“Are you talking to me? Talking to yourself? I can’t tell!”

  35. Katie says:

Folks who don’t use turn signals when driving. They drive me bananas!

  36. Grant Wall says:

People who text and drive annoy me most. Especially when they believe that they’re just as safe, and that nothing can go wrong. I’d love to see people who are caught texting and driving repeatedly losing their licenses.

  41. Mykel says:

What is really annoying to me is: when people talk on their cell phones in public like they are the only one in the room. Please tone it down!

  42. Logan Leger says:

By far, the most annoying thing about people is pervasive, egregious, aberrant stupidity.

  43. Michael says:

People with absolutely no courtesy while driving…. I know, of course it’s more important for *THEM* to get where they’re going 5 seconds faster.

Talking on thier cell phones when I’m trying to talk on mine

What I find rude/annoying, people that are disrespectful.

  47. Ted says:

I find cell phone use while driving amazingly annoying, I’d rather be on the road with someone who blows .08 BAC than someone on a cell.

  48. Judith says:

    Patrons

  49. Bob says:

When the person walking in front of me slips into a closing door, instead of giving it a small push to keep it open for others behind them.
