These obviously don’t work… I’ve been trying for a week now and used all of my gems to speed up unsuccessful attempts and still nothing. I also bred all 3 Olympus dragons by using the sandstorm dragon and the cactus dragon… By accident. wtf? This sucks…
For some reason, it works better when you use level four dragons. That’s what worked for me. Im breaking either this or a moon dragon using a level 4 crystal and a level 10 lichen. Got it in my first try 🙂
I’m with you – the “recipes” change over time and we don’t know what they are at any given time for the rare dragons. I am up to 11 moon dragons and no sun dragons; 4 bronze, 9 silver and zero gold. Unfortunate but the way it goes I guess when it comes to the rare dragons.

What part of the day do you have to breed it in?

Dude keep trying with crystal(right) and blue fire(left) it will eventually work I thought it would never work 2 but I eventually got it so keep trying that combo works
recent activity in dragon vale is blue moon dragon is also bluefire n crystal
I got a moon my first try and a 48 hr breed time my second try i used a lv 10 crystal and a lv 14 lichen

I’ve tried crystal and blue fire over 30 times and storm and Scorch 10 times. I don’t have one rare dragon. Blue fire took me 8 times to get
I have a sun and sapphire but I got really lucky plus I got another 48 hour breeding time dragon on my first try using chrome and scorch both level 10. Got the sun with storm and sonic while trying to get moon both level 10.
try fire+storm or brass+storm…i got sun on 5th try with fire + storm..n now waiting for unknown creature of 48hrs with first try brass+storm

I got a 48hr breed off fire dragon and storm my second third try, the first two try’s were scorch dragons, and we’re bred about 10am the first time, and about 1pm the second attempt. My third attempt which bred the 48hr was around 4:35pm. And I do not have a breeding island. I’m pretty confident it may be a sun dragon 🙂
im waiting on a 48 hr. breeding and i dont know wat it is i bred blazing+crystal
btw the guide above is probably recommended because if u fail the waiting time will not be longer like any other combos with 24 hrs or so…but it have to be repetitive or so XD
if i am breeding a lightning dragon and a ice dragon and its taking 8 hours what could it be!!!
i got it at june2012 a lighting dragon and a cold dragon , i was searching for a storm and ended up 48 hours and its a SUN dragon
They say lightning and cold elements must be present to breed a sun or moon dragon

I’m looking at 9 moon dragons, all the result of 50 or so attemts with crystal and crystal and blue fire dragons. Something must not be right … I don’t get it.
How did u get all the moon dragons? Oh and try breeding the sun dragon in the day time for a better chance of getting one.
Crystal and Blue Fire … up to 11 moons and still only one sun; if it is a time of day thing then that makes sense I guess.

Thanks for the tip … believe it or not the first to me I tried brass (left, level 13) and storm (level 10) I got the long overdue sun dragon. I tried again and did not get it but at least I know I’ve got the right recipe for the time being!
Do you have to have the epic breeding island to breed a sun or moon dragon? I don’t have any gems so I can’t get the epic breeding island.

@rebeca I think they mean your cash for gems like real money. And the only dragons that can get u gems are the gemstone dragons. And to get those u have to have a gemstone island. When u get the gemstone island for four hundred thousand deagon cash here’s a tip if u get it September to get ya first gemstone breed a rain dragon and a mountain (it may not work the first time)

Well I get about 30 gems sent to me a day. It lists the ppl who gave me them but if theres to many to list it just says and others instead of the rest of the names. I have 133 friends who play on dragonvale in the game. So I can’t gem some ppl. I got 50 gems in 2 days so I can’t gen 50 ppl back an I don’t think he can either so stop yelling at him I can’t gem back 4/5 of the ppl who gem me

I just used Blue Fire (left), Crystal (right) – not that i think it makes a difference based on my experience thus far. I just got a 01:14:21/39 gem breeding period at my enchanted breeding cave. And based on the comments above (which seem kinda useless btw…) i have no idea what to expect.
Done this and got a blue moon dragon incubation time 30 hours, WTF??
For a sun you have to breed between 7 am and 7pm
For a moon it’s 7pm and 7am
And it’s base don the internal time of your device.

(I alternate who I give gems to everyday so all my friends get gems from me)
I bred the blue moon on left and crystal on right about 25 times. So far I am. Getting most crystals but I did get a moon and a rainbows. Both bred at 6:15 to 6:30 am eastern with level 10 dragons. I also got 4 more blue fires with that combo.

I got my sun dragon using a panlong and storm. Combo seem to change over time and I guess also pure luck.
I just did blazing and storm(after 7pm) and have 48 hour timer….any thoughts on what it might be?

I just wanted to say dont give up I have tried for a long time then suddenly in the last 2 days finally I got the sun,moon,rainbow,panlong and blue fire all in just yesterday and today using the combos I got off of here so keep trying it will happen

Got the Sun Dragon on my first try with Firefly and Cold! Unfortunately it usually takes a ton of tries to receive rare dragons, for my Rainbow it took twenty five tries of Blue fire and Crystal.

I accidentally got it on my second try while trying for a frostfire dragon. I used firefly and mountain in that order.
I got the sun dragon using a level 10 sonic and a level 10 storm. My friend got a frostfire dragon using lava and cold.
