Could Ash still be one of the two combos? Its description references a boom and the garnet description talks of it being a blast. Ash is also abrasive when mixed with water. Ash and rain maybe?

How on earth (excuse the pun) did I get an obsidian egg from glacier and lava? Please explain.
Oddly enough, the game also breeds the same dragon as one in the pair. It doesn’t make much sense, but it does prevent people from making certain things right away. (i.e. Firefly/Scorch and Ice dragon to make Frostfire or Blue Fire)
This is because the lava dragon is earth and fire, so all dragons that are earth and fire have a chance of being bred, ergo you received the obsidian dragon
On dragon maybe should be the element fire and earth hte other could be something with earth

Question for macenstein; how do you figure out the breeding combinations for brand new dragons? just wondering
He most likely tries random dragons? That’s why he asks to get gems so he can breed/hatch faster eggs. And make differnt possibilities. Idk?
You just keep trying and trying with different combinations of dragons until you get the one you want. Sometimes though, the developers give little hints in the dragon’s descriptions as to which elements are involved.
Has to have water and air. Also earth as it will have no wings

I haven’t breed it myself but the app DRAGON CALCULATOR says there is a 36.36% chance of glacier and lava to work
Not sure of the combo, but that percentage is WAY off.
That’s a 1 in 3 chance, and I’ve tried 90 times.

Yeah I have the app and it’s way of sometimes ????????
Some people on that app spam it and say they got impossible outcomes of offspring so say a bunch of people scam the app saying they bred (example only) blue fire and obsidian and got a rare dragon but itg (in the game) they actually didn’t so you can never really trust it but this is why I use MacEnstein 🙂
I know this is off subject.. All the dragons are back till tomorrow but did anyone notice that there is no.. Frost fire..blue fire..current..and plasma.. Just saying that’s all

Cos those are not limited edition dragons. You can breed them anytime with the right combination.

That is a good observation. I do not understand why they would be missing.
These dragons, along with others of which I have found missing, all have one thing in common: each dragon that is not currently available is a combination of TWO dragon types that are INCOMPATIBLE with each other.
If you looked, there are no combinations of Cold and Fire, Plant and Metal, Air and Ground, or Lightning and Water. I didnt even notice this until just now… I wonder what doc has to say about this… ?:(

They’re gone because of the excessive amount of dragons that have been around for the past two weeks. The “opposite” dragons should be back after the event is over.

It must be something with crystal/quake and brass or something like that, because the description uses the words “shimmering” and”blast” and those are the dragons that perform really well ln those racing tracks! (Shimmering faultline and blast funrace, i think)

Screenshots – if you on iPhone or iPad press top on/off button and home button at same time, screen shot goes to photos. Then can email photo to Mac. Don’t know about other phones, read manual?

Try glacier and obsidion because there the newist drogons so i think they would use them

The Garnet dragon is unlocked at level 14. The combination must contain air and/or water, and yours is Cold/Earth/Fire only.
Glacier and Lava and I have over 24:38 breeding time… And it was a solar eclipse dragon :/ tried again and got 6 + breeding time…. Will keep trying.

I’m just guessing but I think crystal/quake with forge/paper might be a good match…
They wouldn’t make it a limited dragon, or an opposite.
AND NO METAL DRAGON HYBRIDS!!!
I would focus on sandstorm being in the combo due to the description regarding the abrasive, possibly with lava or snow.
Yeah, I said before sandstorm. I’m thinking Sandstorm and Glacier or Sandstorm and Fog.
Hey Mac, this is ->DerWooD<- I'm trying to find the pair for this gem dragon with no luck yet but on an off subject; I am wondering if the game allows us to get our epic dragons to level 15 once we have all others at level 15. The epic dragons obviously stop at 10. Just curious. I have 2 of every dragon with their egg as well- except for this little bugger so now I'm gonna save for the dragon grub. I do gem for gem and delete any who go more than two days without returning the favor. Anyways, thanks for all you do for us who play dragonvale! This is the only reliable and respectful source I have found and you are appreciated.

The description said that the dragon was first discovered in shimmering isles. I’m thinking that the may mean a quake or crystal dragon is part of the breeding combo because I ALWAYS win the race shimmering fault line with quake and crystal. Just a thought. The Shimmering Isles is the natural home to all Gemstone Dragons. And the race Shimmering Faultline has the two elemental boosts Lightning and Ground, of which Quake and Crystal are combinations of, and therefore get the most, best, fastest and strongest boosts.
What about mud and dodo?
What about them? They exist, yes. Dodo is unavailable because it is a combination of two incompatible elements, yes. Mud is still available, yes. They get this dragon? Highly doubtable.

But I have to say I thought that the gemstone dragons would repeat and be the same as last year… Too bad.
The very first of the gemstone dragons was the Emerald Dragon and that started in May of last year. There was no January Dragon last year… This is the first one! 🙂 I hope that’s what you were saying…

Since it is the New Year, it could be that they’re using their two newest dragons to make this one. The combo (in this case) would be Smoke + Glacier. If you’d like to test it, go for it.

I don’t understand why there are so many people suggesting breeding combos and not trying them themselves? Why should I spend my gems finding the breeding combo? Try your own breeding combos and then post your results instead of the posts saying, ” hey try this…. Good luck” spend your own gems and time trying to find the right combo… I find that this site has the most reliable information when it comes to correct breeding combos/information but come on people!!! If more people are trying other breeding combos instead of suggesting them, we can find the right one…
Anyway… I have been trying Scorch and Seaweed with no luck so I am going to try another combo… I agree with others that it must have some water in the breeding combo because if you watch the garnet dragon (in its animations) while it’s on the gemstone island, it doesn’t fly. It’s a “land” dragon (like the saphire dragon) that spends a lot of time in the water features, swimming (like the pearl dragon). I don’t know if this info does anything to help but its driving me crazy that a breeding combo hasn’t been found yet… I also have every single egg and dragon released and spend a lot of time breeding the dragons to make sure that I have every single egg displayed.

Hi guys it’s smoke and obsidian, got a red egg with a green/yellow type trimming around the middle

I can confirm it’s Smoke and Obsidian. I just used this combo a few minutes ago and I have the egg incubating now. The egg is red with yellow green triangles at the bottom(sort of). Don’t know how to take picture to show it.

Yes, that is correct. Bred Smoke Dragon & Obsidian Dragon in Epic Breeding Island and got 31 hour breeding time.
