Steve Jobs accidentally leaks news of an 8-pound iPod with 10″ screen – stock soars

Posted by Igor

I always pride myself on being very observant. Often I am able to pick up on a small piece of information that others seem to miss. But for the life of me I can’t figure out how everyone in the media has overlooked the biggest announcement of this year’s MacWorld: namely, the announcement by Steve Jobs of an upcoming 8-pound iPod with a 10-inch screen, made during his Garageband demo. (approximately 41:50 minutes into his demo)

This is HUGE. Litterally.

A giant 8-pound iPod is exactly what the world wants now, and obviously at least a few other people were paying attention, as Apple’s stock rose more than 6% just after that announcement was made in Steve’s Keynote (coincidentally just after he also announced record numbers of iPod sales).

The 8-pound iPod (or iPod “brick, as I call it) should allow for HD playback and an amazing battery life compared to today’s current 5th generation iPods who weigh in at a measly 5.5 ounces and a sport a paltry 2.5-inch display.

The fact that this rumor came from none other than Steve Jobs himself pretty much assures this is a done deal. Personally, we are going to hold out for a 6-pound, 8-inch display iPod nano brick, because personally, we think smaller is still cooler.

it’s the nano brick for me, assuming it comes in red.

  3. Joe says:

I got my and I’m suing Apple. The iPod brick scratches my hand to easily. They should supply leather gloves with each iPod Brick. Class action anyone?

Sorry for the typo in the previous post. Those scratches on my hand affect my typing. Guess I’ll add pain and suffering to my lawsuit!

  5. Wolfman Mac says:

    that’s an interesting idea, Joe.
Apple should provide gloves so the bricks don’t scratch US.
However, given Apple’s history with the iPod, I think we will have to wait for Belkin or someone to fill the void.

  6. Way cool! I hope they release the ipod brick arm band in red. I better start working out so my arms are nice and buff. I bet it still doesnt come with a power adapter. Maybe this one has a mini generator built in?

Actually you can have one of these today (with an even bigger screen) if you follow this simple mod:

    1. Buy an iMac
    2. Remove the stand
    3. Carry it around with you

Okay, I haven’t quite worked out the scroll wheel part…

Hey, guys — try to keep with Apple naming conventions whilst discussing matters of such mind-bogglingly serious importance?:

    iPod nano —> iPodBrick nano

The GrapeVine (TM) says it’ll actually be 5.9 lbs with 8.1″ display, miraculously incorporating the long-rumoured-but-sadly-missed-at-MacWorld iPB&J* (a 1000 sandwiches in your pocket, to go — anywhere!), but sadly, not-enough-RAM (C) — available in PB-Brown or Jello-Red — the protective gloves in any-colour-you-like-as-long-as-it’s-Black-or-White.

Aw, c’mon, this has GOT to be an early April Fool’s joke. How can it still be an iPod if it can give you a hernia? Small and thin laptops are

  10. hg says:

Guess the handler can’t handle paragraph breaks. Pardon the run-on…. Call the thing a Nano. Call it a Shuffle. Call it a Video. Just don’t call it an iPod when small and thin laptops can weigh

  11. mactheo says:

i can’t wait to get mine. I hear you can hire forklifts to deliver it to your home

  12. mactheo says:

…and it has a parachute built into the back so you can listen while skydiving!

  13. Angus says:

    Yea, it’s called a lap-top, or note-book…
