Say it ain’t so, Jonny!
Gizmodo has posted a somewhat incendiary piece outlining some rather unmistakable design similarities between the work of Apple’s Jonathon Ives and Dieter Rams, the famous 1960’s era designer for Braun.
Gizmodo stops short of accusing Ives of ripping off Rams, instead merely saying that Rams’ work has influenced “every single product at Apple, from hardware to user-interface design“. Ouch.
Well, at least Ives didn’t copy Rams’ haircut. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Fortran for the heads up.
Well, at least we know why they added that bizarre black line around the iMac’s screen
I think you could stretch many designs to imply they were copied. Seems like more worthless bashing to fill time. Bottom line is who gives a —— where the ideas come from, both look good, and I think if there was anything to it Apple would have been sued over it long ago
Please, stop it… This is moron collage 🙂
Between each product, there is ONLY “similar” lines. But primary lines, and essential proportions are differents. Talk to designers.
eh. jizzmodo grasping for straws. noone bashed nintendo when this link was going around: http://gonintendo.com/?p=920
I prefer to think that Dieter Rams saw some photos of Apple products from the future and copied them in the past. Can’t say I blame him.

I was wondering if anyone actually familiar with industrial design might chime in. The examples are pretty stupid, as the similarities are very minor and hardly indicate that Ives’ designs are heavily influenced by Rams’.
Of all the news floating in the ethers prior to MacWorld, this piece is totally moronic. Next.
You’d be an idiot to pay $9.99 for any .com domain name when you can clearly get one at GoDaddy with promo code PCH3 at checkout. Duh.
All joking aside, please Jizmodo. What in modern society hasn’t been influenced by something? It’s like saying the guy who designed the White House blatently stole those columns out front from the Corinthians!
im no i.d. man, i’m actually a graphic designer.
however i did a project around dieter rams, and it is old news that ives was influenced by this particular designer. many people have been as he is a well known icon, and the comparisons have been made since the early 2000’s between ives and rams.
