OMFG! Quicken is releasing new iMacs and Apple TVs!
If there’s one thing we Mac users love to see, it’s the “We’ll be Back Soon” Post-it note on the Apple store. Far more exciting than Christmas morning, the Post-it conjures up visions of futuristic, fusion-powered, levitating iMacs and Apple TVs that are useful without installing Boxee.
Well, looks like Apple is taking so long with the new iMac and Apple TV updates that Quicken has decided to do release them for them. How else do you explain this?
Faithful Macenstein reader Graham writes:
“Hey Doc,
I logged into Quicken online and it’s down. Anyway Im sure they didn’t get the sticky note saying “we’ll be back soon” idea from Apple. I’m sure it’s just a crazy coincidence, right?”
Absolutely Graham. In fact, they couldn’t be more different. First, the Apple Post-it bends upward on the bottom edge, while the Quicken Post-it clearly bends down. Second, Apple’s post it is three lines, while Quicken’s is two. You’ll also notice the yellow of the Apple Post-it is a slightly deeper, more saturated yellow, and finally, of course, they used a rollerball pen instead of a felt tip marker. So while we’d love to think Quicken’s web guys might have somehow been inspired by Apple’s maintenance page, we really don’t see any similarities.
They are just taking a page of ethics from Microsoft.
“If somebody does something cool and you like it. Just steal the idea instead of trying to be original on your own.”
all they are doing is bumping up the cpu and adding an nvidia 9400 to last years version of quicken.
Man, you guys must be soooo bored sometimes…!?! 😉
Hey doc, thanks for the shout out!
You know, while it’s an interesting comparison, and I like the breakdown at the end, posting this could have easily been a ‘ho hum’ entry, if not for this:
“Well, looks like Apple is taking so long with the new iMac and Apple TV updates that Quicken has decided to do release them for them. ”
Hilarious! A nice reminder of why I love coming here and reading your take on things.
That reminds me, I need new post-it notes!
(and a felt-tip marker of course)
Maybe their site just got buried when everyone found out the new Treasury Secretary screwed up his taxes with TurboTax?
Hi Doc,
Wow, this is pretty funny! Thanks for clearly stating the differences between the notes 🙂
Quicken Online was down last week temporarily, and is now up and running. Thanks for your patience and humor about it.

They were just figuring out how to extort more money from their long time customers by shutting off their online services!
