Texas lays the smack down on Vista
“We are not in any way, shape or form trying to pick on Microsoft, but the problems with this particular [operating] system are known nationwide.”
Those are the words of Senator Juan Hinojosa of Texas on the decision of the Texas state Senate to seek to ban Vista from use in its government agencies. The preliminarily approved state budget includes a rider which expressly forbids Texas’ government agencies from upgrading to Microsoft Corp.’s Windows Vista without written consent of the legislature. The Texas Department of Information Resources says its employees will stick with Windows XP and Mac OS X until the next upgrade cycle.
“We’re surprised that the Texas Senate Finance Committee adopted a rider which, in effect, singles out a specific corporation and product for unequal treatment” read an e-mail from a Microsoft spokeswoman. “We hope as the budget continues to go through the process, this language will be removed.” The spokeswoman went on to point out that Microsoft had opened a $500 million data center in San Antonio last year, which apparently did not make the thought of switching to Vista any more attractive to Texas officials.
Now, this could just be the Apple fanboy in me talking, but when states are making laws against using your products, it might be time to admit you need to make some changes.

And you people say us Texans are STOOPID! HA! Stoopid like a Fox!
WOW, this is one of the few times i’ll actually go ahead and say, “God Bless Texas!”
I’m not usually a fan of the Lone Star state, but kudos to them for sticking it to Microcrap.

God Bless Texas.
’tis true!
I work for a state university – and we use dell laptops with docks on our desks. The laptops come in with Vista, and the IT guys strip them IMMEDIATELY.
they REFUSE to support vista machines. ha!!
… but I ask them constantly when we are going to Macs…. 😉
Another reason why Texas rocks!
