Stolen internet tastes even sweeter in iOS 4

Remember Netshare, the first app to bring non-jailbreaking tethering to the iPhone, and subsequently the first app to be pulled from the app store? I’ll forgive you if you don’t, as it was only available for about 36 hours in an odd “on again, off again” cycle in the early days of the app store. Well, FYI, for anyone who was lucky enough to snag it back in 2008, it seems to work just fine in iOS 4, and actually in my tests seems to work quite a bit better.

I don’t know if the addition of multi-tasking in iOS 4 has anything to do with it (and yes, it still does crash occasionally, requiring a relaunch) but the connections seems to stay up for far longer without any intervention on my end. All it needs now is a cool new high-res icon, but I’m not exactly holding my breath.
🙂

Oh, and yes, the real reason I am posting this is to gloat that I still have Netshare, and don’t have to pay for tethering.

Lucky you. I guess I could jailbreak my 3GS to get it now.

i was one of the lucky few to get netshare.. it was a right pain when they ditched it in the UK because there was absolutely nothing in the contract with O2 that said we weren’t allowed to use it for tethering.. still it worked mighty nice whenever i needed it!

Since you have been able to successfully use NetShare would you mind giving a tutorial on how to set it up? I have it but have NEVER been able to get it to work. I just tried it again a few days ago with no luck. There doesn’t seem to be any support from the developer at all! Help!

I have netshare, and have NOT been successful in using it with my ios4 w/ iPhone 4 (crashes with nearly any download, longest time I’ve gotten out of it is 30sec). Im reading that ios4 w/ iPhone 3GS works fine. If I had known this prior, I would NOT have upgraded.
    A) Am I doing something wrong?
    B) And if not, what is causing the crashes in Iphone4 and not in the 3GS?
    Any insight is greatly appriciated.
