FCP X: It takes a big man to admit when he’s wrong, and I’m HUGE

Last night when I saw a few blurry screenshots from the Final Cut Pro X demo and read the reported new features, I was less than enthusiastic. Any of you who follow my Twitter know that the near constant mention of “borrowing from iMovie” sent shivers down my spine, as I feel iMovie is perhaps the worst piece of software Apple has ever shipped (at least starting a few versions back).

Well, I just sat through all 26 minutes of this video taken by YouTuber machineurs, and I have to admit, Final Cut X looks awesome. In fact, the only thing I can complain about is the name, Final Cut X. Since the current version is 7, jumping to X makes no sense. Still, that’s really stretching for something to bootch about. I’ll be more angry when they call the next DVD Studio DVD Studio X, since that app hasn’t changed since version 2.

I’m more of an After Effects guy than a hard core editor, but I am familiar enough with FCP to see that pretty much everything they did is a BIG step up from previous versions, and might explain why they basically released nothing of note for the past 2 or 3 years. Even if you have never used or never intend to use Final Cut pro, I urge you to watch this video and just listen to the crowd of 1700 FCP users who DO know what they’ve had to endure, and their reactions to how promising this new version looks.

  1. Nice article/ video.
I think it’s called ‘x’ to match the whole Quicktime X style.

Some very powerful new ways of working, only time will telk when real users get their hands on it.

I shared this video on MyAppleSpace – and I’m just blown away, blown away, blown away ….. they should have called it Final Cut Pro XXX cause this is pure porn for video editors 🙂

Dude, seriously? The link for the word “software” leads to misfit (MSFT, Microsoft)! You traitorious bast… well, I suppose we all need to make money somehow. Still, NOT APPLE KOSHER, man! Makes me want to kick puppies… Grrrr :))

Oh Hell no! “Microsoft” also links to Microsoft! It’s on now, buddy. 😛
Actually Doc, I love your website, and have no problem with you linking to any company that chooses to give you oodles of money. If you ever link to android, though… >:(
