Intel to announce quad-processor server chip tomorrow
After being forced to play catch-up with AMD’s dual core chips released this April, The New York times reports Intel is rumored to be announcing its new quad-processor server chip tomorrow. This new Xeon chip is the first time Intel has put so many microprocessors on a single piece of silicon. Also expected to be announced tomorrow will be a new dual core version of their Xeon processor, code-named Paxville. The Paxville processor is expected to reach speeds roughly 50% greater than Intel’s current Itanium chips. No word yet on projected benchmarks of the quad-chips.
