Apple drops eMac for $899 17-inch iMac for education model

Apple today announced it has added a new iMac to serve as a replacement for the ancient CRT-based eMac. Designed specifically for the education market, the new iMac features a 17-inch screen, 1.83GHz core Duo processor, a combo drive, built-in iSight camera, 512MB or RAM, 80GB hard drive (expandable up to 160GB). 5 USB ports (2 USB 1, 3 USB 2)2 FireWire 400 ports, built-in Airport Extreme wireless, and iLife ’06. The iMAc for education features Intel’s embedded GMA 950 graphics card, as found in the mini.
This new iMac is available only to educational customers directly through Apple.
