Apple releases 8-Core Mac Pro, cuts display prices
Apple today released the much rumored “Octo-core” Mac Pro, featuring two Quad-Core Intel Xeon “Clovertown†processors (that’s 8 total!) running at 3.0GHz. Aside from the processor upgrade, the only difference between the new 8-core Mac Pro and the “old” quad-core is the price, and that is QUITE different. Making the jump from a 4-core to an 8-core machine will set you back an extra $1498. Currently, there are few (if any) applications that will be able to take full advantage of the 8-core systems, but that will change with Leopard, rumored to be released this June.
in other news, Apple also dropped the price on it line of cinema displays, cutting their costs as much as $200.
is it wrong to want such an excessive machine that I will likely never fully utilize?
Yes. It’s a sin. As your punishment, you have to buy me one.
