Jobs’ “One More Thing” ranks #17 on USA Today’s Most Memorable Quotes

As any Mac fan knows, the highlight of any Stevenote (that is, a keynote speech given by Steve Jobs) is when he casually mentions he has “One more thing” to tell us about, just as he’s winding down. The crowd goes nuts, and (usually) we’re shown some new ground-breaking gadget that we had all read rumors about but somehow still surprises us to see in person.

Well, it seems that famous line is no longer merely something significant only to the Mac faithful. USA Today had its editors and reporters compile a list of the 25 Most Memorable Quotes, and Steve’s “One more thing” is ranked proudly at #17.

In truth, the list is actually quite absurd. We think the world of Steve and all, but how could his “One more thing” be more popular than “Where’s the beef?” (#23). The list is 85% news-related, but they have mixed in a couple movie, TV, and music quotes, such as “You can’t handle the truth!” from A Few Good Men, and “You gotta fight for your right to party” by the Beastie Boys. Once you bring pop culture into the running, pretty much every line from every movie is more memorable than any quote on the list.

How about, “May the Force be with you“, or “It’s time to make the donuts“? Certainly more memorable to ME than “Which office do I go to to get my reputation back?” said by Former Labor secretary Raymond Donovan, May 25, 1987, after being acquitted of fraud charges (#13).

Heck, I think “It’s our time down here” from The Goonies beats that.

Maybe Jobs should take out a patent for it. After all, the Donald tried to get “You’re Fired” patented.

He should have to pay royalties to the writers of “Columbo”. 🙂

If they’re allowing memorable movie quotes, then no list can be complete without:
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.”

    and.

“This one time, at band camp…”

Best movie line ever: “220, 221 whatever it takes”. From Mr. Mom.
