“Hi, I’m a Mac… and I’m a PC” circa the year 2700

Above: No wonder Eve looks like an Airport Bast Station!

Fortune has an interesting article about how back in 2005, while planning the soon to be released Wall-E movie, Pixar’s Andrew Stanton called upon Steve Jobs (who was still Pixar’s head muckety muck at the time) for some art direction on Wall-E’s futuristic love interest, Eve the robot’s design. “I wanted Eve to be high-end technology – no expense spared – and I wanted it to be seamless and for the technology to be sort of hidden and subcutaneous,” says Stanton. “The more I started describing it, the more I realized I was pretty much describing the Apple playbook for design.”

Steve in turn called on Apple’s resident Boy Wonder Mr. Jonathan Ive to go over and throw his 2 cents in. While Stanton described their meeting as a “love fest”, he plays down Ive’s role in Eve’s design, saying that Ive was fairly tight lipped about any future Apple plans, and merely nodded and smiled at what they had created.

Or maybe he was just laughing at how much the movie seems to be a direct rip off of the Short Circuit franchise…

Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Adam for the tip!

Yeah, you’re totally right. The rest of Eve fits in.
