Cheap plastic? Hardly. The back panel of the 3G iPhone costs $3000!

All of you guys worried that Apple had cheaped out by going plastic for the 3G iPhone’s back panel can now relax. Apparently, the back panel of the 3G iPhone costs $3000 . Given that Apple has dropped the 3G’s price to $199, that’s some hit Apple is taking!

OK, actually, $3000 is just what Apple parts supplier appleowner.com is trying to get for the darn thing, and who can blame them? Much like Christopher Walken‘s character in Pulp Fiction, odds are someone had to hide this uncomfortable hunk of plastic in their ass for a few days to sneak it out of some high security Chinese prison factory.

Allegedly this is the real deal, as the site only sells genuine Apple OEM parts for everything from cinema displays to the 1st gen iPhone. In fact, you can almost build your own iPhone, as appleowner has 1st gen iPhone touch screens, plates, bezels, headphone jacks and more for sale.

Perhaps the oddest thing about this $3K back panel listing is that it has a “Customers who bought this item also bought” section, implying someone has actually already bought one of these.

Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Dan for the tip!

Funny post, I particularly enjoyed the Christopher Walken reference.
