This would have been awesome
Easily the best April Fool’s joke of the day is ThinkGeek’s iCade for iPad. At a price of only 149 imaginary dollars , I actually think it was underpriced.

Pretty much the only thing the iPad is missing (aside from Flash, a camera, and USB) is a way to sink MORE MONEY into it. I would have loved to experience the nostalgic thrill of dropping quarters into this thing in order to play all the horrible games from my childhood, starting with Adventure for the Atari 2600, then running through Night Stalker from my Intellivision, and then, assuming I had $250 left in quarters, I would play (and still not beat) Dragons Lair.
Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Florian for the tip!
I knew this would be of interest to you 😉
If this were real, It should be easy to transport, so a nice feature would be, that it can be folded into a iPad bag with a handle preferably.
I’m still waiting for my bottle of SqueezeBacon to arrive.
guess Floran beat me to the send button
but since they almost always turn one joke item into a real one we can hope
I would so buy that for the bar top, would be awesome without a doubt.
So much cooler than that stupid phone thing.
I would definitely buy this. I’m just a sucker for those old-school games.
Wouldn’t it have been smarter to break the perfect scaling ideal in reverence of ergonomics? By that, I mean, why not angle the ipad backwards a bit so people don’t have to squat at the edge of the table to look straight on at the display?
I know, I know. It’s just a joke. But for pranks like this to be believable, you have to try to be as genuine as possible.
I want one of these just to play Gauntlet. I WANT IT SO BAD. I almost bought a full size stand-up genuine (refurbed) coin op version of Gautlet II a couple years ago.
Have you seen how beautifully made those little cabinets are? Hunt down a large image of them – they really are crafted with love. Big respect the the hoaxer for putting all the effort into them 🙂
