Kindle Fire outselling iPads at Best Buy – Amazon is a big baby

With the news today that Amazon’s Kindle Fire is outselling the iPad 2 at Best Buy, I thought it wise to revisit this little Kindle Fire mention by Seth Meyers on SNL a few months back (about 40 seconds in). Giving we are now well into the holiday shopping season, I think Seth’s warning to parents bares repeating. Now, this news should not be cause for we fanboys to panic – after all, the iPad is still ranked #2 at Best Buy, and remember that the Fire is less... Read More

This is why the terrorists hate us

Awww… look at the cute little kitty playing with the World’s most expensive cat toy! That’s right, this is a real app. It’s called Game for Cats (iTunes), and it’s free if you have a (preferably declawed) cat you’d like to mess with. Thanks to faithful Macenstein reader Marksman for the tip!  Read More

Macenstein’s Mac Chick of the Month October 2011: Nicole Vaunt

Welcome to Macenstein‘s “Mac Chick of the Month”. Each month we feature a different die-hard, Mac-loving girl who is (almost) as well designed as the Apple products they love. This month we present you with the lovely Nicole Vaunt! – Name: My name is Nicole Vaunt, or just Vaunt for short. – Location: I live in Philly but I’m constantly traveling. I’ve been all over the country a bunch of times, and I’m even making my first... Read More

Games that Don’t Suck: DragonVale

Today’s game that doesn’t suck is DragonVale (free/universal) , a Freemium title from BackFlip Studios. Before I go into why it doesn’t suck, let me just point out that this game actually came DANGEROUSLY close to getting a “Suck” rating, solely for the one fatal flaw that I will go into later in this review. However the awesomeness was ultimately able to beat out the suckage, so If you’re into Sim-like time wasters to help you escape the tedium... Read More

You had me at “Hot Russian girls with Apple gear pulling off their clothes”

Faithful Macenstein reader currentinterest sent us this great clip of… something. Not sure exactly what, but the video, entitled “Putin’s Army” certainly plays like an Apple ad, with iPhones, MacBooks, and iPad unwrappings. Oh, and boobs. Enjoy. Here’s the official description of what is going on, although I’m not really any clearer after having read it on what the deal is with all the new Apple gear: “Called “Putin’s... Read More

Games that don’t suck: Army of Darkness Defense

GAMES THAT DON’T SUCK is a feature dedicated to games that I think are well worth your hard earned money, but not worth me sitting down and spending 3 hours crafting an in-depth review (these things are usually 99¢ after all). However, you can rest assured that any game bearing Macenstein’s GTDS rating is worth buying, sight unseen, based solely on my expert opinion. Army of Darkness Defense (iPhone 99¢, iPad $2.99) is one of those rare Games that doesn’t... Read More

OK, Let’s admit it. This thing is designed for one purpose, and one purpose only

Ok, maybe TWO purposes. I would imagine the buyer of this “hands-free iPad holder” would meet one of two criteria: 1) You are a woman (who likely resembles the woman pictured here, but with far less clothes) who needs to hold her iPad 2 steady while performing some beautiful, sensual, tantalizing act via FaceTime. 2) You are a man looking to to hold his iPad 2 (and free up his hands) while performing some sort of horrible, disgusting, unmentionable act while watching... Read More

Enter to Win: An IDAPT i2+ Universal Desktop Charger

According to our demographics, odds are if you are a regular visitor to Macenstein, you are a 23-35 year-old male college graduate, who may or may not be married with children, which means if I were to break into your home while you were out (or sleeping), I would expect to find no fewer than 4 USB-chargeable gadgets. Likely you own at least ONE iPhone and one iPad, and perhaps even an iPod or two. Well, it doesn’t take a 23-35 year-old male college graduate to know that... Read More

Season Premiere of South Park targets iPhone location tracking with the Human Centipad

Wow those guys work fast. I have always been impressed with how quickly the guys at South Park can crank out a topical episode, but I HAVE to imagine this was a perfect storm of South Park already going to make their “Human Centipad” sketch, and then they somehow were able to tack on a 2 minute tracking piece. If not, they must have literally gotten their turn around time from script to air down to about 6 days. If you missed the episode, I assume it will be rerun... Read More

The Awesome iPad Art of Chris Seddon

Tina Fey or Sarah Palin? Either way, it's dead-on. Illustrator Chris Seddon has some pretty impressive work, but I’m always a little extra impressed when someone can crank out that work on an iPad. I spent about 2 days toying with the various big name drawing apps on the iPad before giving up and sticking with paper, but some artists like Seddon apparently stuck with it (using Sketch Club on the iPad) and have achieved great results, such as The Dude and my favorite,... Read More
