Eeeewww… Droid phone explodes – blood and ears fly everywhere
Damn telemarketers!
Deep in the heart of Texas, a certain Aron Embry found out the hard way that the term “Fragmented Android market” applies not only to the different software versions the Android phones run, but to the phones themselves, as fragments of his Motorola Droid ended up cutting through his ear when it exploded. Ouch.
Aron Embry was at Ray Elementary in Cedar Hill at the time of the incident. The man said he had just finished a call when he said he heard a loud “pop.”
He then felt something trickling down his face; it was blood. His ear then began to bleed profusely, and he was immediately taken to the emergency room at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches, but said there was no hearing loss. The glass on the face of the Motorola Droid smartphone apparently shattered. He said he had just purchased it just two days ago. The phone still appears to be functioning, and its battery was intact.
Poor guy – as if his phone exploding wasn’t bad enough, he still has to USE the damn thing!

I’d like to know more about why it exploded. Does my iPhone have a similar risk of exploding?
Finally… a dream come true: a NON-APPLE product explodes, and you’ve got the story! Reminds me of Fox News… searching out the one story that supports the (fanboy) Party Line. And hope the picture shows blood and guts.
Not that it’s any less amusing, though. And Apple engineers think ahead, and build designs that remain safe — and look cool! — even after they explode.
I would say that is more of a Motorola faux pas than Google. Android is still a great platform. I jumped from iPhone to an HTC Evo 4G and I love it.

If this had happened with an iPhone, every god damn news station in the Northern hemisphere would be reporting on it, yet this is the first I’ve heard about it, having happened with an Android phone…
I completely agree with, Tim. Google/Android, has nothing to do with it, it was a hardware issue that caused the problem and thus the blame can be attributed to, Motorola.
Android, is the best OS, the statistics don’t lie! So you can’t bad mouth Android, just because of what happened here.

What exactly on his phone exploded? The videos show his wife saying the phone was still receiving calls. If his phone exploded shouldn’t it not be working? And don’t most explosions with phones related to the battery? Odd if you ask me.

That phone looks like it had been hit with something. Rather than an outward explosion, it looks to have sustained a force or impact from the outside.
Guy is trying to get some money pure and simple. He most likely has an addiction to fast food that is unquenchible. Cutting himeself and using the already broken cfell phone, as a result of some kind of negligence, was just his brilliant idea hatched in the bowels of his family trailer. This story ends badly for old jed, as he not only wont become a millianair, but rather, the next defendant in the Texas court system. And he does need to lay of the fast food. His girlfriend that took the pictures will be leaving him either way….
