Jonathan Ive’s biggest design challenge? Himself.
Reddit user pdmcmahon found this great clip from MacWorld 1999 (yes, not 1985) of a young Jonathan Ive sporting hair and what can only be described as an attempt at a mustache.
The recently knighted Ive is largely considered to be a design genius, and as you can see from these shots, his “Jason Statham-esque” reinvention is clearly his best redesign to date.
Puberty just kicked in.
He maybe the head Industrial Designer at Apple, but he also has a team working for him which helped invent the style of the iMac, iPod, etc. Not to take away from his skills, but remember, he also designed the Newton and the MessagePad (both of which had a stylus). Dieter Rams may deserve partial credit for Sir Jonathan’s success as well.
I admire Dieter Rams and try to follow his ideas, but my designs haven’t gotten me any acclaim. Dieter Rams deserves partial blame for that!
