This looks cool: The Gaming Skin for iPhone and iPod touch
Easier than actually reviewing something, I have decided to create a new feature called “This looks cool”, where I showcase things that… look cool. And this looks cool. It’s the Gaming Skin by iSkin, a combination battery pack and speaker/rumble pack which aims to make your iPhone/iPod gaming experience a little more immersive by adding vibration and (hopefully) less tinny sound than Apple’s iOS devices provide.
“The Gaming Skin improves grip while gaming and also protects against scratches and short drops. It extends both gaming time and/or video playback up to 10 hours, boasting a power capacity of 2050 mAh. Users can simultaneously charge the Gaming Skin and iOS device by plugging them into a laptop or wall charger; the iOS device will always charge first and drain power last.
The Gaming Skin for iOS, $99.99, is available for pre-order now on www.Power-Skin.com for a discount of $10 off.”
It’s kind of a weird gadget in that it is not a iPhone game pad with physical buttons, like the mythical GameBone, and it is larger than most stand-alone battery packs due to the extra hand grips on the sides of the device, but as an owner of pants with huge pockets, I must say I am intrigued. The Gaming Skin claims to be compatible with every iPod touch and iPhone except the 1st gen, which I usually take as an ominous sign that there will be quirky adapters you’ll need to keep track of, but aesthetically, I am loving the design. Maybe I’ll have to check one out after all.
So the big question is, Doc, when are you going to have one of these up for grabs in a contest ;-).
