Apple IIc plays Second Life better than Leopard
Fans of the virtual online world Second Life who were shut out by the 10.5.2 update are in luck. While not exactly the fix they may have been hoping for, it looks like Mac users can once again play Second Life on their Mac, provided of course that Mac is an Apple IIc.
The above video was created as part of an art project by Joshua Bell, an employee of Linden Labs, makers of Second Life, and involves streaming the desktop images of Second Life from a Dell laptop to a 1 MHz Apple IIc via an USB to RS-232 serial adapter to modem adapter. The stream is provided by some proprietary screen capturing software written by Bell.
Finally! Now we can all get back to that virtual Second Life Apple Store (see below). I’ve had my virtual iMac in there for virtual service since the 10.5.2 update!
Above: I had to watch this several times to be sure it wasn’t actual video of the NY Apple store. It is dead on (unfortunately). Especially the dancing.
